Title: VCDS micro can
Post by: Baz300 on November 18, 2012, 03:34:08 pm
I'm looking at VCDS cables

What is the disadvantage of just buying the micro can cable over the hex+can?

Do I lose any functions on a mk5? Compared to buying the other cables?

On the mk5 platform you will see no difference in function between a micro-can and the more expensive hex-can cable apart from not being able to utilise the turbo button in the software.

If you intent to scan any other platforms then you'll need a hex-can cable.

Does the turbo button just make the communications quicker?

If I upgrade to a mk6/7 or a scirocco in the next few years I'm guessing that this cable won't be compattable?

The turbo button allow quicker sampling of data so more of it is recorded when logging.

I think the micro-can cable is compatible with later car platforms using CAN protocol.

It won’t work on non CANBUS cars like the MK4 Golf, Polo, MKI Octavia, Fabia, Transporter etc.
