Title: key casing replAcment.....fault????
Post by: kam on November 19, 2012, 10:35:33 am
Hi guys I changed the casing on my worn key today, I also removed the old blade and fitted it into the new holder that comes witht the key, changed over all the internals, since then the vehicle starts for a few seconds then cuts out and comes up with imobalizer active on the clocks.

Have I done something wrong or do I need to have the key coded, it was working fine before I changed the casing and swapped the blade......any help would be great thanks.

I'm not 100% sure but I believe the key is coded to your car so when you change the case it shouldn't make any difference to the key, the case on the other hand will need to be coded so it sends the correct info to open your doors on the central locking. If you haven't done that, that may be whats causing your problem. Do the buttons work to open your car remotely ?

there is a transponder in the front part of the key, looks like a small glass capsule.

did you transfer that over?

School boy error , didn't transfer the transponder over, done know works perfect, although on the old key there was a nice space for it, on the new key it sits in a space, nothing to hold it in so I used a little tape to stop it from rattling...... Ed to the recue once again, many thanks.

I found good old superglue also works rather well to stop it moving  :signLOL:

eBay - lots on there. About £5 or a decent non genuine one, about 4x or more for a genuine version. I have bought a couple of non genuine ones and they are no different to the originals

eBay £5 all in - piece of cake to change as well! You do however need to tape the transmitter in as it's not as snug a fit as the oem ones!
