Title: Plastic in sump
Post by: VWB on November 19, 2012, 09:20:43 pm
Oil in sump - removing oil pump.

Hi I have recently brought a Golf GTI FSI. The cam chain has snapped, tensioner is broke an the cambelt has jumped some teeth. The oil was also overfilled by 3 litres. I decided to check the oil strainer as I know these are prone to blocking and found shards of plastic in the sump. Doing various searches I cannot find any searches on this - has anyone had or know of this problem as I have no idea where the plastic has come from?
Also has anyone got any info on how to remove the oil pump?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. I think I found where the plastic has come from. It's called an oil restricter but I don't know where it goes and had a look on ETKA and it doesn't show where it goes. Does anyone know where is goes or anywhere I could look. Many thanks.

If the cam chain has snapped then the plastic is probably from the chain tensioner.  Not sure on this restrictor though.
