Started the car up tonight whilst talking to a mate and there was a "ch ch ch" noise coming from under the bonnet which it has never made before. Even when it was at temp it was still making it. I've made a video below of the noise, just need some ideas on what it might be. All the levels are ok and the cambelt/water pump has been done within the last 2 years.

Could be your tensioners?
My cambelt was replaced recently and makes more noise than before :grin:

Frequency follows engine revs? Louder or quieter with engine revs?

Yeah frequency follows the revs, the noise levels and pitch stays the same just gets drowned out a bit by the engine reving

I did think that but it's not random like it would be if it was mice

I did think that but the belt and tensioners and water pump was done back in feb last year so I can't see them failing
Aux belt maybe?? Just a guess.
Could be as I reckon it's a belt or something to do with the belts

Well my aux belt is making a similar noise. I sprayed WD40 on the belt to see if the sound went. It dissappeared for a few hours, so when my car is due a service in december the aux belt is being replaced. I cant be having any noises now.

Bit of an update, went on a long run the weekend (hours drive, various roads) and the noise has disappeared. Might be due to doing short runs as engine only just getting up to temp but will keep an eye on it.
