Hey All
If anybody could shed some light on this for me please, as my car is in bits:-

to get up there where you can see red!
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fyy295%2FScopes_GTI%2FIMAG0157.jpg&hash=7bdce15bfeed3bd4e67195a9dc4cf3f0e42a65aa)
I find it really tight in round the area of were the canbus is, i cant even get all 3 clips of just 2 or disconnect the red clip thats connected to the canbus...
I have tried going in from the engine bay behind the wipers, but not much room there either, & i dont have big hands.
If anyone can help with any pointers, i would be so grateful :happy2:
-
Can't help much, but it was a bit of a bugger when I changed mine, though I went through the inside. Once I located it, it was a matter of just using the hands without looking to unclip the plug and waddle it out. I found that the easy part... putting the new one back in the same place and putting the plug back in was painful! :fighting: :fighting:
Eddie might have a lot more info
-
Cheers Jonny! Did you unclip the canbus 1st or undo the clip?
-
Had the same problem, managed to replace old with new but could not put it back into clip so got some tape and secured it out of the way of moving parts e.g clutch pedal and has been ok so far!
-
If I can remember correctly, the campus did slot into a holder, once I unhooked it from that I found it easier to unclip the clip. The clips an arse to release aswell especially when you can't see what you're doing. Good luck
-
I really dont know how ya's done it! :sad1:
-
Hi Neil,
....surely someone has some advice on changing these for you???
It's painful when the car is in bits and you need help to continue with the job. :sad1:
I've found a bit of a video on YouTube but its for a DSG so it'll be easier than a manual.
Ill keep searching for some help for you. It's just one of those jobs I've not done myself. :ashamed:
-
When I removed mine I went in from under the dash, removed the plastic cover which looks like you already have, then removed the air pipe which is in your pic, dropped the relay holder out the way. Then on the face of the dash is a pocket/compartment that opens up and pulls off. Then you should have better access to remove the canbus.
Hope this helps and good luck.
-
^^^^^^ That sounds like a pretty good explanation BlackGti :congrats:^^^^^^

much more room to work with that pipe out of the way
thanks guys, i was close to givin up there!
-
Did mine tody (cut hands to ribbons :sad1:).
Mine was not in the place where the youtube vid said. It was behind the relay ubit....
Remove the little drawer/cubby try thing under ther steering wheel, uuclip the top relay set and it was behind there. Such a PITA to remove the clips and plug
PS, mine is a 57' plate R32 DSG..
-
That metal rod that is hanging down is attached to the steering column by 2 bolts take it out and you can get movement into the canbus...sorry if i'm late on this.
The above is what I used to do if in that area and is miles better without the rod in the way.
>05 GT behind the ashtray
05-06 above the clutch pedal
07> behind the CECM Relay bar
-
cheers guys, :drinking: i just dont be able to realease the canbus out of its cover :sad1:
-

Did you tick all the relevent boxes in the installation list?
iirc you have to have a workshop code installed in vcds for the canbus gateway coding to be accepted.

Clear the faults and then rescan. You'll probably find the faults have disappeared as they occur when installing a new gateway.
