After speaking with Movitel I put in an order for a Polar Fis+ advanced. The guy I spoke to said this was the newer looking one with a black box and better cable. I have never seen one of these before and wondered if anyone who has just bought one received one same as this:

That cable certainly does look at little more robust. However, I've never had a problem with mine. :happy2:

They are meant to have sent it today via Dhl 48 so should find out soon. They are listed as being an official reseller on the Auto Polar website so hopefully should all be fine. Fingers crossed.

I think the polars in the new shipment are indeed black but the innards are the same as the old version.

btw before you install your polar I would suggest you flash it out of the car with the latest firmware version 0.3.0 Final that was released today.
Take note that there are 2 versions of this firmware on the update site, one for the red_dot mfd and the other for colour/white_dot mfd so choose wisely.

I just want to make sure it is the genuine Polar FIS+ Advanced unit because I have not seen this black one before, only the very old PF01 is black.
Yes 100% genuine
Old black one was plastic case.
New 2012 was alu metal silver case.
New 2013 nobody has in stock is brand new, better pcb, better parts and ready for future.
Also 2013 you will receive is more expensive cost price and will be around the world in few weeks, just you got it before at special price and its BLACK ALU METAL CASE
We really hope you like it, also the new cables are new design and better quality, so we hope you really sell there a lot of units because you already have special price.

Mine won't arrive until next Thursday still sitting at fed ex in Malaga
And they are cheaper than going direct to polar

Had a go at fitting it with not a lot of luck- my gateway is above the clutch pedal, dont seem to have much room to move my hands (I must have big hands :laugh:) Anybody know how to undo the clips that holds the canbus in place. Do I need to push or pull etc. :rolleye:
Any help or advice appreciated.

I recieved mine 30 mins ago from Fedex (2 days early)
it was a black box too but it does not have the polar sticker on the top like the one on the pic
I am updating the firmwear now and will fit it after work tomorrow

When looking up from the brake pedal, the 2 securing squeeze clips of the canbus gateway are prevented from squeezing together by a plastic strip that you must first pull towards you in the footwell. That allows you to squeeze the two prongs of each clip together. The gateway then comes away from it's harness by pushing it upwards. You should now be able to wiggle it down to make the polar connections.

Right, the cage thing that holds the gateway in place, does that move at all or does it stay put?

Can you not just disconnect the plug from the Canbus leaving the unit in place?
That's what I'm going to try and do tonight as I had so many cuts on my hands last time I swapped over the Canbus

I left it in place! I first turned the gateway throught 90 degrees then just wiggled it down below the cradle.
Eddie_NL moves the entire cradle but I have no experience of doing it that way.

The cabling plug to the gateway has a lock on it securing it to the gateawy.
Trying to press the tab to release it ( it's oreintated at the top side of the plug) to remove the cable is near on impossible with the limited space available.

Ok I have managed to move the gateway out of the cradle but I dont seem to have any room to move the gateway past the cradle in any way. I think I am stuck now so I will have to ask Eddie how I can remove the cradle. My hands feel like I've been ten rounds with Mike Tyson. :sad1:

Did you try turning the gateway 90 degrees anti-clockwise then try to wiggle it down the right side of the cradle?

I tried to wiggle it down from the back left hand side rather than bringing it forward. I think that must be where I went wrong, and now I cant get it back. :ashamed:

I Managed to get the plug off without removing the canbus
All pluged in and I get the polar fis screen
But when I try to set up any of the screens I just get a message saying " finding available parameters" and it won't do anything after that (left it 10 mins)

I would first double check that all the cables are securely connected.
Do you have a red or white mfd?

I have double checked that everything is secure
I can get the engine rpm, battery voltage, coolant temp and outside temp working on screen 1 (must be factory settings on the polar)
Tried dissconectIng the battery again but it's still the same

Make sure all of your doors are closed use your key to lock and then unlock. This worked on mandys car.

After round 3 of my battle with the Polar FIS I managed to plug it in.
Question is how do I select which parameters I want showing on the 5 pages?

Also, is it essential to finish off by doing the following via Vcds?
When you have finished to mount all the pieces, use a diagnosis software as for example Vag- com or another similar and follow the following steps:

-Connect with the 19-Gateway control module.
-Within this module, access to Installation list .
-Mark the module [75] Telematiks.
Finally, make an Auto-Scan or review the rest of modules of your vehicle in order to erase the errors that have been generated because of disconnecting the battery and remove the connector of the vehicle Gateway.

Hold down the ok button on the steering wheel then it will take you to the polar menu
I think it is in screen press ok then screen 1 press ok and it will say parameter1. Parameter2 etc
Select the one that you want to change and press ok
That's as far as I got

I can't update the firmware from work as I don't have admin rights on the computers

No idea. I was told to clear any fault codes that came up after installing so it might just need to be cleared
Did you manage to change any parameters? If not then it could be a problem with the can gateways

That's perfectly normal with the Polar and not something to be worried about. :smiley:

Cheers mate but unfortunately it doesn't end there. Looks like I may be experiencing similar probs to Baz, mine all seems to work ok but I lose the top part of my display where the clock is meant to be.

I hope so too! They seem to be quite helpful though. Its odd as the clock is there when flicking through the menus but not there when on the home screen.
