So today im fitting the RNS510:- with hands that have been cut to shreads lol..

How long will this take me lol, could not be anywhere near as hard as fitting the canbus.. I recken about 40mins.
It all seems easy enough, just the part where everything needs coded after, pickles my brain, I have seen loads of threads on this, but if anyone would like to shed some light to keep me right i am more than grateful for all your help!

 :happy2:

Really easy and quick to do, just make sure you take your time with the plastic trims, especially around the radio. Remember the colder it is, the more brittle the plastic becomes. I always believe in taking your time and making sure nothing get's broken or damaged and everything is done right rather than trying to rush it.

I use a butter knife wrapped with a cloth to remove the plastic trims and never made any marks removing them

Should only take around 10 mins to change the head units over but I'm not sure if you will need to get anything coded on VCDS

Do you have the oem amp that's part of the soundpack option? If yes then you'll need vcds coding.
Also do you have a cd changer or ipod in the armrest? If you do you will need to move a wire (or two) in the harness plug.

Just wondered if you could help me as I have replaced the RCD310 for the RCD510 in my 58 reg GTI and have the I-pod dock in the arm rest but it doesn't work since the swap... Not that I use it much but would like it to work as it is there... would you know which wires I would have to change in the harness. Also is there a short lead that plugs into the dock then into an I-phone 4 as the dock seems to be a bit tight on the phone...  I assume it is for an I-pod that is a bit slimmer.

Sorry for the hi jack

Did you really mean RCD300 as moving from a 310 to a 510 should probably , I suspect, mean leaving the wireing as is.

Do you have a pin out diagram of both units to compare?
