Title: RCD510 Fitting Help ASAP
Post by: TomGTI on November 24, 2012, 05:05:42 pm
I'm currently sitting in my car as I write, I'm trying to fit my rcd510 head unit to my 08 golf GTi, all is going well but the arial plugs do not fit into the new head unit what do I do???

Would be grateful for a quick reply, thanks in advance.

think you need an adaptor lead to get it to fit

Or do what most folk do and remove the plastic ends off your aerials. The aerials should now plug into the back of the unit and secure it with tape. I prefer the adapter myself but the ghetto method also works.

So if I just pull the plastic ends off of the aerial it will slot over the ends on the head unit then tape it on yes?

I would prefere the adaptor but on eBay it says the adaptor lead is 30cm long, I've followed the lead back behind the aerial but I can't find the connectors, are they further back in the dash?

Just realised the adaptor plugs in to the end of the old aerial rather than disconnecting it.

Another thing my iPod connection in the glove doesn't play but it does charge it and shows a vw badge on the screen, any idea?

Yes you just pull off the ends to leave the metal ends which then just push into the 2 spaces on the rear. Don't bother with the cable - waste of money. Had my aerial attached to my rcd510 for well over 10 months with no problems. You don't need any tape either, they push on nice and tightly.

Can't help on the iPod though I'm afraid

Thanks I'll give that a try and pull the end off.

Hopefully someone will chirp in about the iPod connection

Thinking about it I'm sure I have seen posts saying that you need to switch over a pin or two on the iPod plug with the newer units - pretty sure it was in this forum section

Okay thanks I'll look in to that.

Grrrr another problem while the HU is still hanging is that it doesn't show the radio station only the number 99.7 rather than RADIO 1???

Help  :notworthy:

Where did you get the HU?  it could be a none RDS unit, so it won't show the station name.

If it is an rcd510 then it will have rds

unless it's a cheap knock off from China. Have noticed a few of these on eBay

They're not knock off, just for the Chinese car market.

Yeah it is from china, it hasn't been programmed in this country thats why it doesn't have rds. It's a really smart bit of kit and does everything i want, but the fact it doesn't show the radio stations is bugging me its no major issue and everything else works as it should.......but I'm seriously considering selling it just for this little reason. It just bugs me.

Maybe I should of done a bit more research on it.

Do u think I'd have much luck selling it on here?
