Title: H&R Springs fitted plus a bit of rear end LED bling!
Post by: markymark on June 24, 2009, 09:42:59 pm
Having seen the great results of SteveP fitting his recent H&R Springs I thought I fancied a set of those! My car was looking far to high against everyone elses at the Superchips RR Day so bit the bullet and went for it!  8)
Here are the before pics:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi20.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb246%2Fmarkoakes%2FCIMG1159.jpg&hash=e643d147adbed0d2a38f4702ba80848231147d10)

The springs finally got fitted after a bit of a set back by us not having all the necessary tools!

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi20.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb246%2Fmarkoakes%2FCIMG1286.jpg&hash=27b6c33d3eae7204f62be45266015c557bb3a76a)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi20.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb246%2Fmarkoakes%2FCIMG1287.jpg&hash=8afe06c87d4c0b65c3b214873a1d92df27cc9c86)

I then made the mistake of reading the thread on the LED's and fell in love with them, I was fortunate enough to find a cheap set so thought sod it lets have em, if I dont like them I can sell them on! Having spent the weekend following RR I knew they would look good but only if I fitted the outer lights as the inners would just look to bling IMO.
See what you guys think! :happy2:

Do you know what may make it work. You know i was asking you for your reversing lens, I reckon if you changed your fog lens to white like  i want to do then that may give it good symmetry.

Just a thought.

Yeah I think I may take the one out of my standard pink GTI lenses and see how it looks. Then find a red bulb! :happy2:

Yeah white fogs look much better!  :happy2:

Swapping the lens is pretty easy, I took one apart not long ago and it was only a 5 minute job.  The lenses are pretty cheap on eBay too.

Cheers Tom, I have 3 sets of lights now so I will butcher my original GTI lenses! But yeah it does look much better! Have you got a red fog light bulb or will you just put it back to red on MOT day?

nice Mark  :happy2: , out of interest did you ebay the springs or get them from DPM?
As regards the lights I see what youve tried to do but I think youll have to add the inner parts too imho.
It just doesnt quite match otherwise.
Would love the LED lights too, as Ive said on another thread they are sooooo much safer.
On a black car its a toughie.
I do however reckon some very lightly tinted laminex film over them would tie them into the black and take the 'edge' off the white, making them suitable for a black car.
Thats what I'd do if I got a set anyway  :signLOL:

thats what spending time with TC/Greenouse/RR does to you lol, whats next ?

Cheers Tom!  :happy2:
I got my springs from DPM, they were here within 2 days of ordering which is pretty good as I was originally told it could take a week. As for fitting the inners, I think I will run without for now as they really are too bright for my liking and fitting laminex is just going to be a right PITA! You are right though it would tone down the brightness but that is something I actually quite like. Who knows, I may go that route in time but for now im happy with the look as I really didnt think any of them would work.
Yeah spending time with the Modfather and the other crew does start to increase the angle of the slippery slope!!
For the time being thats me I think, I cant justify any more mods as Im getting married in October so need to save some money for that or she might be a little upset if she doesnt get a wedding ring!

Car looks really good Markymark. Can I just ask what kind of difference you've noticed in ride quality? Like Keith, I was hoping to find a deal on some H&R's at Inters.  Also how long / ball ache a job is it to fit the springs?

Thanks  :happy2: The ride quality hasnt changed radically its slightly harder but you definately notice the difference on corners, its much stiffer and reduced body roll. The car does feel more planted, but on the motorway she soaks up the bumps just as before. I used to have coilovers and uprated ARB's on my old Beetle and that was like a go kart, very harsh ride and would almost make your fillings fall out. I went for the H&R's as I wanted to go lower but not at the expense of ride quality, been there done that!
As for fitting them if you are fairly competant with a spanner and have all the tools it shouldnt be to tough. The rears are a doddle, the fronts are more time consuming. :happy2:

 8) Thanks. Although I went for a ride in Nousey's car with a similar set up, I don't remember anything other than his acceleration  He knows what the roads are like around my way  :fighting:  So didn't want my skeleton shaking to bits, its crumbly enough. I like the drop on yours though, very subtle.  :happy2:
