Title: Mk6 gti vs edition 35
Post by: kbish73 on November 27, 2012, 05:36:55 pm
Hi folks looking for some advice ! Thinking about selling the Mk5 gti and replacing it with either mk6 gti or edition 35. What I need to know is is the gti engine the same as the edition35 or is it a stronger version as was the mk5 v edition 30 or is it only the golf R that has the updated engine?

Thanks in advance :popcornsoda:

The standard Mk6 GTI has the new EA888 engine, often (wrongly*) called the TSI engine to differentiate it from the old engine. The Mk6 Ed35 has the old EA113 engine from the Mk5 with a K04, same as the Ed30/S3/Mk6 R etc

*wrongly as some of the VAG marques e.g. Audi still call the new engine "TFSI", and the Ed35 and R are marketed as having "TSI" engines by VW.

As the ed35 has the same engine as my car (ed30) and having had a mk6 Gti the most obvious difference is the mpg.

I found it much better in the mk6. I would also say a mk6 gti mapped is every bit as fast as mapped ED30 and has much less lag
