Well last night my fiancee borrowed my car (Think you all know where this is going!) 5 minutes later i get a call from her in a hysterical mess
She was in that much of I state I couldn't get out of her what had happened but at that point all I was bothered about was that she was ok.
So I put the kettle on, made her a brew and waited with apprehension.
So here's the out come:

She's totally misjudged a low wall in the dark.
It actually upset me with how upset she was - I think she thought I was going to go absolutely ballistic at her! And i'm quite surprised myself with how I reacted.
At the end of the day, we are all only human, we all make mistakes, she's not hurt and it is something that can be fixed.
I'm just devastated though - she couldn't of caused more damage in a car park if she tried. Really bad timing as well (Although there is never a good time for this sort of thing!)
My major concern is the Rear Quarter, have any of you ever had rear quarter work? And any ideas of how you'd repair something like this?
I feel physically sick
 :sad1:
-
Its a shame buddy but your a top man for not popping, she wouldnt have done it on purpose and she would have felt bad enough so kicking wouldnt have got it fixed :congrats:
Its a shame but like you said, it can be fixed :drinking:
-
Firstly, is she still your fiancee now you've slept on it? (not like that!)
Secondly, it's really not that bad, they'll pull out the worse, skim it, spray it and new trim pieces it'll be good as new... time to get some quotes bud...
Wish my wife would drive mine, but she's too worried I would go ballistic, if she damaged my precious car...
-
This is the reason Laura doesn't drive mine....

-
At least no one was hurt
Good luck with getting it sorted :happy2:
-
And the reason my mrs only drives her s reg, auto, battered on all corners starlet!
On a serious note, it doesnt look that bad! Take it to some places for some quotes
-
Feel for you - your pride and joy is tarnished and the other shining light in your life, a sobbing wreck. Look on the bright side. The car will be fixed and your fiancée will lavish you with gifts, compliments, meals and special favours(!) until she catches you doing something you shouldn't!
A good body ship with a stud welder will pull all the damage from the quarter panel with the minimum amount of body filler. The old method of drilling and pulling dents has largely been superseded by stud welding. Much better results and no place for rust to start. Ask the bodyshop their technique.
Good luck and enjoy the attention from your young lady.

Get her to pay!!

I agree its not that bad at all really mate.
The key is finding a good reputable body shop. :happy2:
Thing to do now is get it booked in for repair and book a weeks holiday in the canaries while its being fixed.
A full week away for the missis to show you how sorry she is :happy2:
Come back and car is like new
....then start to think about the credit card statement :scared:
-
… and here was me moaning about dropping a bulb in the headlight.
I do feel your pain but good on you for not reacting. I remember when my wife clipped a mirror on HER MK4 golf – she was shaking. Makes you realise there are more important things in life.
Anyway... as said it would have been worse. Looks like skin damage to me so at worst case a new/ user rear quarter can be used. You’ll think straighter in a few days so try to sit on your hands for a while and don’t rush in. If I were you I would get a few quotes and ask some probing questions – not only does it get you the answers you need it tells the bodyshops you’re not a push over/ you want the work done right.
-
gutted for you mate, but you make all the correct points and reacted in a very reasonible manor
i had this dent pulled out of my golf and repainted, circa £300 in West Yorkshire
(silly tesco bump which they didnt leave any details and tesco wouldnt give me access to the CCTV)

Horrible seeing things like this, sorry for you.
I remember destroying the front of my old Focus, as some fairly big wildlife decided to run towards me on a dual carrigeway at night in the wet, managed to shave off a lot of speed, but still need a new radiator, bumper, lights... oh and lots of cleaning solution, eek.
As others have said, most of it doesn't look 'that' bad and would probably be ok with just one new part (rear quarter strip, cheap) and some decent bodywork restoration. As you say it's the rear 1/4 work will be the costly bit.

Get her to pay!!
ye, special trouser kisses should do for the next whole year for a starters
-
Thanks for all the comments of support and understanding! :happy2:
I think i was just panicking a bit that it was a lot bigger job to repair than it actually is! Sent me into a bit of a meltdown but I'm reassured by what your all saying.
Taking it to the bodyshop tomorrow and we'll see whats what.
I know where your coming from not letting your partners use your car, saves a lot of hassle!!! I'll take it on the chin and learn from it :signLOL:
Thanks again :happy2:
-
Nightmare. Hope it's not too hard on your other halves purse.
Just milk the undoubted guilt that she will be feeling!!

Problem is, we have a joint account, so i'll be sort of footing the bill anyway! (as i contribute more to it!) Double school boy error 1) Joint account 2) letting her use my car
I need to sort myself out!!! :signLOL:
-
Luckily or rather sadly for you your car is a 3 door.
Had it been a 5 door and she had smashed your back doors in you could have returned the compliment.

I saw that you had commented... and I expected "One smashed in back door deserves another"... so I wasn't too dissapointed :signLOL:

Not here to disappoint Rich.

It normally takes something like this to make you realise that at the end of the day, your car is only a big lump of metal and plastic. In the grand scheme of things, it's not really worth worrying about. No-one was hurt - that's the main thing.
Hope you get it sorted out without any headaches and for not too many £s!
-
Yeah you're spot on.
I know im OCD about my car and I really wish I wasn't bothered about cars and them being perfect. I just cant help it! At the time it felt like the biggest disaster in the world. But its only metal.
But after reading peoples comments and speaking to the bodyshop I'm quite happy now that it'll get repaired to a standard that you would never even tell.
Deep breaths and keep reminding myself, it's only a car, no one was hurt or killed :signLOL:
-
.
Major respect to you for your understanding and sympathy for her feelings :notworthy: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats:
Your relationship will be stronger after this event. From her upset and your sympathy for her, it's crystal clear you love each other.
Once it's repaired you'll forget about it and go back to enjoying your car. :happy2:

Been there got the t-shirt as well lol! My Missus borrowed mine to go do the shopping at tesco and somehow managed to drive into the stand thing that holds the trolleys. :driver:
Fortunately wasn't to bad. She was the same very apologetic and thought I'd go ballistic. I didn't but she had to make it up to me!
Funny thing was I had to drive her back to tesco as she hadn't done the shopping.

Nasty! That'll cost well over a grand to sort.
I know from experience...but I did it myself like a tit so no boudoir 'favours' for me.
