i still love my car. every time i tweak it i fall in love with it all over again.

not a good time to sell atm so i'd advise getting a couple of toys to keep you happy? lowering springs? RNS-510?

..mod it more.

Just my thoughts.

I'm 44 (fast heading towards 40 bloody 5), had my Ed30 since new which is 6 years in March.
Love it still, and still got more modding thoughts. Might just be me but I'm not bored of it at all.

I Agree, I think its normal to have a pretty up and down relationship with a car,  :ashamed:, but changing little bits to make you smile every day makes all the difference !  :happy2: Again wouldnt even bother trying to sell in the next month at least  :sad1:

I had this a couple of years ago, and bought a grandad car; Saab 9-5 Aero... great in a straight line, but poor in the corners... soon came back to hot hatches; the grass is always greener.

 :congrats: :congrats:

Love my Eddy too!

Had a few cars, some better looking IMO, some faster, some with better MPG, some with more gadgets BUT not one compares to the Eddy for its "all round" ability. As mentioned, mod it more, a lot more! The more I mod mine, the more I enjoy it and the way it looks and  the way it drives/handles blah blah blah.

Its not that your getting old, its the opposite, I don't mean to be rude but your only 23 so it's in your blood to get bored quickly. I know, I was there once and also have 2 kids your age and older.

I've owned my golf for almost 3 years now 8 months ago I thought I was getting bored and bought a new focus st mapped it turbo back exhaust was quick but every time I got in the golf realised how great it was so the focus had to go. Now I'm doing a k04 upgrade porsche brakes and bits and bobs you won't find a better car  :drinking:

Dont know wat other mods u have, but ive had my GTi since new, 2005, and yeah like u I got a Stage 1 remap, albeit a Bluefin plug-in from Superchips, nowt else (apart from RNS510 which I love), and last yr considered changing car as it just didnt feel alive anymore! Then got bak into this Forum again, did sum research, changed my DV, pcv, and cam follower, added a Twintake and BCS TBE, got an R Tech Stage 2 and quite honestly have never looked bak! Moral is, as sum here have eluded to, dont change, just tweak here and there (depending on yr budget of course) and I have no doubt ull fall in love with her again!! Soon to be 40! :-D

this is the best reply as to why you have a good car, bought new st focus and went straight back, soooo many people leave the golf and come back, you will do the same
eventually if you sell

I've had my Mk5 GTI over 7 years from new and have never ever felt bored with it and I have driven several other high performance cars during my ownership and never felt disappointed returning to mine.

I was thinking about the same s@@t as you mate..was thinking of trading it in for a mk5 r32 then turbo it but fell off my chair when I found out the costs of fitting a turbo kit to it,so I'm gonna keep the eddy & get a wavetrac diff in jan-feb & maybe a hybrid ko4 too

Have you thought about getting WMI and asking Nick to map it like James's??

That car is insane - 380bhp and spins the wheels in 4th (in the dry)

Holds 380bhp over about 2000rpm all because of a £200 WMI kit and an R-Tech map

I bought my gti 2 years ago and 8 months down the line i was too in the same predicament as you are. I paid top dollar for my car and when i came to sell it the depreciation was ridiculous. Albeit i was going to stay with the golf but in ed30 guise. I was at stage 2+ then stripped back to stock. It wasn't just the depreciation that put me off, i just looked at it one day and thought "what can i buy for similar money and get decent power and build quality" not much really. Soooooo i went back on the modding trail again. Re-bought everything for stage 2+ again but went a little further this time, i'm now running k04 hybrid, w/m ,bigger brakes, loads of handling mods and to say i'm happy with my car is an understatement. I have fallen deeply in love with the old girl again. This is how much so, i was offered £10k the other day and turned it down. Tbh i cant see me selling for at least 3 years now, not untill the 'r' is within reach for me.

I hate to say it but i'm coming up 65,  had my ED30 DSG for 4 and half years now and still love it. Always been car enthusiast and think this car has given me more pleasure than most cars  I have owned. No intention of changing in the forseeable future and still look forward to getting in her and driving it. Great car.

Its like having a relationship with a woman.  You have your ups and downs but you stay together because the love is strong....Your get your bad days and you argue but then you have your good days...Don't break up with her is all im saying, give it a few more months and treat her to gifts e.g. bigger turbo, brakes etc and she will give you more pleasure

@ Scott:
Yes, they're bonnet catches - I had an OEM bonnet catch failure while on an expensive full circuit trackday at Nurburgring. The failure is not uncommon.

....I'm just over 65 and have a 22yo daughter but it's as mothers say: "A 23yo boy has the mind of a 15yo girl"   - It was my daughter who strongly urged me to order a 5-door and not the 3-door I was considering and she was only 15 at the time!

As Jeremy Clarkson waxed lyrical on, the Golf GTI truly is an exceptional allrounder and a difficult act to follow.  :happy2:

Those foglight covers are the biz.

Yes i'm only 8 months into my relationship but after owning many other hot hatch cars this is the best. I'd always avoided as everybody had a golf gti (or percieved by the badge on the outside). Ive just got back in mine this am after 4 days in an F-Type and i still love it.

Im 22 and had my GTI for 3 years now. just getting it to a stage now where im happy with it. I find a good way to keep interest in it is to drive around nice and economically most of the time and then on the odd occasion when the time is right give it a good spirited drive and put the smile back on your face.  :happy2:

yeah I thought about blinds but kids kept playing with them in the old car and I would like it done properly so will be looking into deeper tints next year but thanks for the advice.
have seen soooo many people on this forum modding their engine, suspension, brakes etc etc etc and soooo many taking them back off again for whole host of reasons,,,,
does the gti really need any performance mods at all ?
for track racing I understand but most are not track racing, I have driven countless cars that have been modded although not owned any and I have driven quite a few mk5 golfs also modded out,
the standard car set up of the mk5 gti is already great and I don't really see the point of chucking three grand or so upgrading something that is great already ?
I mean some people chucking a grand at a set of brakes is crazy to me,,, buying a good audio unit or a good sat nav ok I can see the sense in that, but spending thousands on mechanical upgrades on this type of car seems a bit silly
buy a Porsche or something with the extra money.
even worse when you see people spending stupid money on something like a corsa, crazy
the gti is already a spirited drive unless you like whoring it round country roads at 100mph
each to their own I guess.

....Yes, the standard GTI is an excellent car and doesn't actually need performance modding. BUT.... .... I blame the fact that I did a couple of driving courses so I could learn the car's limits. That remapped my brain and then once on the slippery slope of modding....

However, with performance comes responsibility. Having faster acceleration and stronger braking helps make overtaking safer, for example, because it's over quicker. Driving is less stressful believe it or not.

Around my neck of the woods there are all kinds of roads and the benefits of handling mods come into play very strongly. It's about getting a bit extra out of the car to enjoy rather than high speeds. That's why some folks are advising the OP in this thread to mod if he's bored. But my advice would be to do a course and remap the driving brain.

....Some circuits offering trackdays (Spa for example) insist you have both front and rear tow eyes fitted so that if you do have an 'off', the rescue crews can get your car out of danger quicker. They appreciate seeing the word "TOW -->" so that they can hook up quicker. Rescue crews will hook up on anything and so it also helps to better protect your car from them doing damage. It's the same principle as emergency crews not hesitating to cut your roof off if it might save your life.

Your rambling are truly brilliant Scott. Keep it up!

In relation to this particular post...

"Going off on a tangent" is a saying referring to a conversation/discussion (or monologue) that deviates from its original path ie this thread started off on the subject "being bored" and now were on "why mod at all" and Robins talking "tow eyes", incidentally very funny when you see the chav, boy racers with said "tow eye" sign on their cars which have obviously never seen a track.

now im sure you could list every possible part of mechanical upgrades to me and I could find a logical reason for not really needing it but bah humbug
out of interest and im quoting here
---The word tangent is a word which is associated with a right-angled triangle---
tangent ????? emmmmm what

 :happy2:

Haha, well I'm pretty pleased I can illicit such a response, but really, I think you've taken my comments the wrong way.
mmmmm , you say I am off on a tangent and then you try and quote a third generational version of the word
the version of meaning for this word you quoted was the Idioms version, and no im not calling you an idiot
you totally bypassed the noun meaning and then went straight past the adjective meaning before finally settling on a rarely used meaning third generation of the word.
getting a bit silly yet ? yep, lets leave it there shall we, maybe another day another debate, back to the subject of the thread as you say

[/quote]see bold, well said rr,,,, cmon how many guys with mods at maybe 350bhp actually have done advanced driving courses,,,,, prob about 2%
best advise I have seen ans as spiderman says - with great power comes great responsibility - sorry it was his grandfather, oh and not on the new spiderman lol

....Is that because you get bored too easily? Or is it like playing the girlfriend field more when you are a young dude? - Trying them all out to see what you like best.

If you're bored of your car, sell it and get something else.

With the market as it currently is. You will be lucky to get what you want for it
