Title: eddie poorly, splutters and eml light..very strange problem
Post by: JackG on November 30, 2012, 11:29:38 pm
Strange one this  :sad1:
Was very low on fuel so i went to tesco and put 30£   in, started her up and the revs jumped a tad and a bit of a  splutter...thought how strange!
Started to drive and had a loud backfire from the zaust...loved that  :signLOL: but then i put my foot down  it was barley moving, wouldnt go  above 4K rpm, then at 3K its judders and pops and bangs...no eml lights but then it flashes and goes off, stopped the car and started it again and then the eml was on, on iddle its fine, takes longer to start than normal also, i think the engine may also be holding revs longer too but this may be me
Ive ran the car with oil cap off and its splutters so pcv seems ok
Idles ok so cant be coils?
Im lost and have no idea,  cant get it checked till monday !
Help  :notworthy:
Jack

Sounds exactly like a coilpack to me.

If you had the eml on then it could possibly be a throttle body glitch
If so & your getting the the codes read out on a VAS or VCDS setup then run an adaption on everything, fuel pump / t-body / IMR flap & readiness

Yea the same here, to be fair now you said it does click into place so im praying it is the coils, its done 55k now so suppose they have lasted well on a 2+ eddie  :happy2:

Chances are it will only be one of them. Can you log the car?

Were you not entitled to have them ask replaced by vw in their recent warranty recall ?

Low pressure fuel rail fault....we suspect the sensor on the hpfp as its reading the wrong bar on the fuel system, when i rev it and the cars dropping its revs there is a noise from the hpfp like a metal noise  :scared: i only just done the follower with new internals around 7 months ago
i also had the sensor on the hpfp replaced about 2 years ago (40K ago) due the eml came on once, we reaplaced it with a new version but is it possible its gone again?

Im sh*tting it thinking its the cam on the way out

Spark plugs?

I thought the cams were alright on the ed30?

Shouldn't be the inlet cam on yours
Does it run smooth when you first start it then sound a bit ticky & splutter on idle after 10-15 seconds?
Also check you've still got power to the Top pressure sensor on the rail pump I've had them pop fuses before
On another note I've had intank pumps fail before and throw the eml lamp just check the low pressure pumps good
(I know all this sounds complex but it's something we'd do in a few minutes if we had the car)

It takes a while to start, few turns and then it starts, and then yes it does run a bit lumpy after a few seconds and then idles ok and goes funny again...
amazing how much we worry about our cars

Get me the exact fault code you pulled out
If its not the pressure sensor itself it could poss be down to No 1 oxy sensor screwing things up for you

Ill try and find it again as it was on my friends laptop, i really appreciate your help, wish you were closer to me!!
something i noticed today was that what sounds like the intake pump sounds like wiper motor....IE a whine that sounds high and then low..the car was on 0 miles before i fulled it and the car started funny straight away whilst still in the station, the low pressure sensor will be here tomoz and im praying that may be the cause as its reading -700 or summit like that  :signLOL:

I once heard a story of fuel contaminated with diesel causing no end of problems on an m3...

Funny it happened straight after filling up... fuel filter blocked?

My in-tank pump wines a little, this may be why mine is stuttering under load  :surprised:

Well fuel filter could be but it doesnt show why the low pressure sensor is reading -700, its a right pita,
I said its too much of a coinsidance that once i filled up this happend so i think it could be the filter personaly or the pump in the tank, but the noise from the in tank pump could be that im looking for things to find wrong and hear things...

Now wheres the scrap man when you need him  :fighting:

Got the new sensor here so will fit that later.....i did notice last night the whine from the pump at the rear is loud outside the car, i put my hand on the fuel filter and it does seem to vibrate at a unsteady pace...IE you can actually feel it whining up and down (noise is going up and down) ill fit the sensor and then possibly may need a new in tank lift pump...Revo told me the RS3 ones fit  any know roughly how much they might cost?

Sensor fitted and its still the same, next is fuel filter and then in tank lift pump  :sad1:
