Hey guys, hope you can help me
I'm from Ireland and I'm thinking of booking a ferry to the UK for the missus and I and driving to the lake district next Feb 11th-15th. I know the weather probably won't be great but I'm well used to rain in Ireland :rolleye:
I've heard lots of people rave about the area. I studied in Manchester for three years and I always regretted not taking a week end up there.
I'm looking at Ferries from Dublin to Cairnryan or Liverpool and then driving up.
I'm looking for advice on decent scenic drives. Where is a good starting point on day 1 and working our way around the area. What's worth seeing? idea's of places to stay?
I'm sure there are a few on here that live near the area or have done a similar trip.
I'm bringing over my Irish car. Is there anything that is compulsory according to UK road law that I need to have in the car i.e. an emergency kit, warning triangle, etc
Obviously I'll have all my insurance documentation.
I'm getting an RNS510 for Xmas so it'll be getting plenty of use come Feb
Thanks again
Paul

Just some places on google maps that I have been to and enjoyed. Most of the roads are great to drive on for different reasons.

Possibly not the best driving road in the world, but I enjoyed the time I drove on the Wrynose Pass.
-
Yep - Wrynose, Hardknotts and the road from Conisborough to Buttermere spring to mind. Also the run from Ambleside to Keswick. :happy2:

Will be up there myself in 3 weeks for my annual escape from christmas trip  can't wait. Absolutely love it up there it has an atmosphere all of it own.
The Struggle, out of Ambleside and Kirkstone path are worth a trip too :happy2:

But I guess that's the point.
