Title: Widest front/back wheels to fit ED30?
Post by: SL03 JOE on December 04, 2012, 10:24:01 am
Hi, I'm looking at getting some new wheels after Xmas and I was just wondering what size the front wheels could be in width?

Ill be going for 18" but I'm not sure wether to go 8/8.5/9/9.5

Anyone got any idea and what ET you'd need? Ideally don't want to smash or do arch work. But I'm looking to get as much rubber on the road as I possibly can :)

Thanks Joe.

I think the max on the fronts is 8.5 and rears are 9.5s without any arch rolling. Lowering should help as it tucks them in. I have 18x8 on front and 18x9 rears with no problems with lowering springs

Cheers mate, I like the SNAs but there only 9J wide :(

I have 8.5j on on the front and 9.5j on the back. Back has 30mm spacers on. Also running some very subtle tyre stretch. Offset is 30 (I think).

I can post pictures if you want to see the real thing. It does look quite flush and I'm running 18" wheels.

Yeah if you could please mate that'd be great!

Think if fronts were rolled I'd get 9J on front ? Lol

On the front i'm pretty much on the edge - looks very flush so if you want to go for 9J, rolling is probably going to be the best bet! As you can see below, on the back my golfs wide as! Sweet nonetheless. Could be dropped at the back at bit more to better the stance (which will also help you get the wide look).
:)

Well ATM I have some genuine mint black monzas with all new perrli tyres. But think I may sell the monzas and get some TDs if interested in them. But if keep tyres I think.

I used to see you alot around town, I used to have a blue mkiv r32 supercharged with black wheels at the time

Small world. I think I do remember seeing you and think nice but yeh not around town as often but still around! I also had a mk4 r32 at stage 2 in black a while back. What price you selling the monzas? If vw don't fix my golf I may not need winter wheels but hopefully they will!

Haha neither! Its at vw hq atm as the dealer in st albans I went to couldn't find anything wrong, although they broke it in the first place! There most certainly is though!

My offer definately would be enough as haven't got much cash lying around but we'll see.

I take it you want that wide stance on your Ed30....which when done properly looks sweet as?

Well I'm look for wide stance and grip. Being stage I already and it's an animal!
Will be going stage II very soon! Intercooler came this morning so all is well and hopefully tbe later next week.

Tbh I'm stuck between stance and performance but I love both lol!

You can juggle both-ish. I'm told my car has a good stance but if stopped at the back will look even better. Its probably my wheels/camber but I topped 125 on the track before I went "this is too sketchy to continue". Stage 1 Ed30 will be better than mine...mines fast but just feels too heavy. Stage 2 will be a lot better hopefully. How's the move from the r32 to the gti?

Vw in a routine service managed to forget to tighten numerous bolts across the engine bay resulting in them flying across causing damage to various parts. "we cantnfind anything wring" they said!

Yeah that's what I'm going to do hopefully :)

Yeah stage I is mad! Well I had a stage II MKV GTi before the r32 so it's not so bad. The r32 just sounded amazing! We're ATM my MKV I'd standard apart from map, but as I said wont be long :)

My stage II GTi made about 270bhp that was bluefin though not like mapping! My ed30 currently on bluefin but will go love map when go stage II and III
