SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!
A new beginning for GTI International at the Shakespeare County Raceway near Stratford-upon-Avon!!
* Outstanding safety for sprint spectators with grandstand seating for 3,000
* Sprinting on one of the best tracks in Europe
* New low prices!
For the past eight years, GTI International has been held at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground in Leicestershire. Although one of the most successful events in it's history, this year’s event was marred by an unfortunate accident on the Sprint which resulted in three spectators being injured.
We don’t want anything like this to EVER happen again and so we are moving GTI International 2013 to the Shakespeare County Raceway, near Stratford on Avon, one of Britain’s top drag racing venues. With full MSA accreditation, full-time medical centre, extremely experienced staff and a wonderful smooth and level surface, sprinting at GTI International will be faster, and much safer, than ever before!
It won’t be just about the Sprint, though. All the usual Inters attractions will be there: massive trade area, handling arena, show ‘n’ shine and a huge camping area with a section for those who want more peace and quiet.
Entry to the Show on the day will cost £15 instead of £20 and this comes down even further, to £12.50, if you BOOK IN ADVANCE!!!. And, as a special Christmas offer, the day tickets will be available for just £10 for a limited weekend in December.
We’ve also brought down the cost of camping. For one night, this will be £35 and, for two nights, £40, these prices including entry to the show. These prices come down to £29 and £33.50 if you book in advance and the special Christmas offer brings these prices down even further to £23.50 and £27 respectively!
Sprint prices are also down, compared to recent years, despite the fact that the track itself is far superior to the runway at Bruntingthorpe and the timing system gives much more information to each competitor.
A single Sprint run will now cost £5 and a ticket for a half day, with as many runs as you can pack in, will cost £15. A full day’s sprinting, again packing in as many runs as you can manage, will cost £25 and a full weekend’s sprinting will be £40.
All of these measures are designed to make GTI International safer, less expensive and more enjoyable than ever before.
You will be able to find out more and more about GTI International 2013 from the website (coming soon) and in the pages of Volkswagen and Audi Driver magazines, or you can leave messages here.
Hopefully this will be the start of something new and fresh for Inters.

Yak yak.
I hear remapped Bluemotions are quick.

.
That's extremely good news! :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats:
Quite frankly, I wasn't bored with the folks going but got very bored with the 'show' at Bruntingthorpe.
Also, not so far to go and I have friends near Stratford with a big house with 3 guest bedrooms I can invite myself to stay with. I'm at an age where I prefer my luxuries - Have done hundreds of nights in tents in my time and in all weathers all over Europe.
-
Agreed. It had got a bit stale and needed a shake up.

There was a thread on SCn a while back with one guy getting an arse on because the only car that he lost to was a 135i
New venue sounds good. Plus its on my birthday, so win win.
You will need helmets though
It is now a requirement of Shakespeare County Raceway that you MUST wear a crash helmet for drag racing at all events in 2012. This includes Public Track Days and Lifestyle Events.
-
WTF.... that ridiculous!
Well thats me out then.... no way i'm buying a lid to drive in a straight line!

....They may possibly have helmets to hire as they do at Castle Combe.
Personally, I would much prefer to wear a helmet for ANY motorsport event or even for Touristfartin days on Nurburgring.

Get one of these Rich.

That was almost certainly either me or Ben then, I seem to remember dicking at Leon actually.
Funny isn't it, I'm obviously having a laugh and have no issues in getting beaten by a better driver or car. How can you take it seriously enough to the point where you get offended??
I'll bring my spare lid. I'm sure we can muster enough between us to go around.

We saw Return of the Jedi on a sunny Saturday afternoon, my brother's eyes struggled to adapt on the way out and he knocked himself out walking into a lamp post.

80's movies aside
Awesome venue with a proper track and will be my first inters and i wont even be in a vag :rolleye:
-
Hmmm a lot further for me to drive , living in the North East , but I will probably give it a go! As for 80s films , I cant believe nobody has mentioned the fantastic 'No mans land' featuring Charlie Sheen and some amazing 80s Porsches! Theres a great scene in it where the boss of the rival stolen car gang gets stabbed on the dancefloor of what used to be referred to as a 'Discotheque' , while the cracking 'Dont tell me' by Blancmange plays in the background! :happy2:
-
Anyone bought tickets yet seeing as the special price is open?
I don't seem to be able to purchase day or days along with sprint tickets and club stand pass all in the same purchase.
Is this a fault on my part or does everything have to be purchased separately?.
-
A steering wheel comes off a car, causes carnage and we turn it into a top ten 80's film chat :signLOL: :signLOL: :signLOL:
Only on this forum can that happen..
I remember the SCN/Ibiza owner/1.4 TSI 1/4 league leader who got a monk on now..
I did 8 runs, only lost on 1 run against a 32K BMW M 135i, why he was there i don't know.
See if you can line up against him next year Mike.. :signLOL: :signLOL: :signLOL:
-
The poor child. Why was I there? I was doing the same as he was, having fun.
I think I remember him, he was the only one who wouldn't have a chat in the queue at the end.
I was stripping last time with the aircon on and Radio 2, I may leave the baby seat in the back this time too - just for extra piss taking!!

Get a dummy baby for it as well. That will upset some grown ups.

This chap is the fella in the yellow Ibiza Mike. He was moaning about me unfortunately  Good to know there was two of them though.. :signLOL:
-
LOL. Well there was a few of them there, some with chips on their shoulders.
I got dicked by a 'Vette - I got to the end and laughed, giving the guy a thumbs up.
-

Thats what its all about...
I got dicked on by a guy i didnt know in a H reg. mk2 golf with an DSG s3 lump in it, with mk5 clocks on the floor with every warning light on.... bit of a mess as it was a work in progress... but bloody quick :driver: We had a laugh... on the first run he missed the "hole in the wall" on the left and had to do a U turn. :signLOL:
-
Likewise ^^^ I got done by a Mk2 Golf 2 years ago (in the Eddie) that won the diesel class.. It was running 300+bhp and 80gazzllionlbft and I laughed the whole way down the strip when we were side by side..
I'm one of the biggest 1/4 mile whores on here and I can happily admit to losing many battles to the timing lights. Did I care? Not one bit.. All part of the fun imo :happy2:
-
Exactly, people forget the only person you're actually racing is yourself - to get the best time you can.
-
Just seen this thread, I'm all for this venue move as its a lot closer for me
-
I wont be going now. Not sure its worth the 387 mile journey to get there :sad1:
-
I actually forgot which thread I was in after finishing reading it
Never been to an 80's movie festival inters so was planning on poping my cherry next year. Its moved a bit closer to me so that good :happy2:
Looks like I missed the Christmas offer, so have to wait till March to get a ticket?

The only way this would get better now is If they played 80's films.
-
As my misses works for the Holiday Inn in Stratford I maybe able to get good rates for rooms for those that would prefer to not to camp at the airfield?
-
Cheaper runs on a proper strip gets my vote but we'll have to wait and see if the atmosphere is the same I guess!
-
Back on topic...... 80s movies.... talk to me.... :P

Used to get the pre movie movie back in the day before it cost £15 for an IMAX ticket and a £8 hotdog and coke! I remember those Orangey drinks in plastic pot things and tubs of ice cream with disc lids that made perfect frisbees for throwing around the smoke filled cinema.
Great List of movies. How about TV Series in the 80's. best decade for car related series as well.
Miami Vice
Night Rider
A Team
Airwolf
MacGyver
Buck Rogers (the bird was fit as f...)
The Incredible Hulk
Magnum PI
The Equalizer
Different Steokes
Moonlighting
Wasn't there also a series called Hardcastle and McCormick? Or was that just my childhood imagination  Cant remember what car tho!

Does anyone know if we are going to have a club stand at Inters this year?
-
Yes we should try and organise a proper club stand this year.
Not sure how it will work with the new venue though.
-
I was thinking that. Also last year registrations for the club stand had to e in by march iirc. Trouble is Inters site hasn't been updated for this year.
Stupid idea but we're having trouble finding somewhere for the mega meet how about doing it at Inters?

....Personally I think that's a good idea.

I agree. I think having the mega meet at inters would remove many of the problems we are likely to come across trying to do the meet independently. Also for those of us who want to go on the sprint and handling circuit are free to do so.

That would suit me fine!

Check with the mods first if someone wants to take the lead with organising a forum stand at Inters
Then email mail@autometrix.co.uk and ask away about club display!

Advance tickets are supposed to be available from today but I cannot see where to order them on the site

Do I just email the organisers?

We need a banter thread starting.
So, who reckons they can 'ave my M135i then?
Just been looking on the Shakespeare County Raceway website and it looks like unless you have a VAG group car, your FOOKED! :sad1:

Just looked at the class list on the Inters website, seems there's one for "Other Marques" - non Vag cars may be allowed to run, subject to availability, at the discretion of the Sprint Managers.
I'll email Birkett and see if he'll give me approval, given I'm nice and stuff. :happy2:

That's a possibility as I had to run in the "other VAG" class last year.

Looking forward to this,Brunters was good but jeez the strip was bumpy as hell :ashamed: and also the ride thru the woods the last time I went in '11 was not good with the dirt flying up over freshly polished cars :fighting:
I've been Long Marston before but was a bit put off going down the strip by V8 powered Escorts making Subaru's look like they were going backwards
