What do you guys reckon, should I grab a 2010 version iMac 27 (i5/i7) and have the ability to hook up PS3/XBOX/PC via a Kanex XD box or sod the connectivity and grab a 2012 version with USB3, thinner screen, better GPU / CPU etc.

100% the 2012 version, spec has moved on a lot and the way the 2012 imac looks is just stunning

.
I've got a 2011 iMac 27" and it looks exactly the same from the front (while using it) as the latest version. The 2012 spec will of course be upgraded but not by a huge amount as far as I have read. I guess it depends on detailed spec.

Yeah, I was looking at the new model in the Apple store on Monday. I use iMacs everyday, and the screen on the new one is a massive improvement. It's so much brighter.

It's the screen Robin - hold your iPad up next to your iMac screen, both on full brightness. The difference is massive, but not with the new version.

Not being able to hook up game consoles or PC...hmm, I have an i7 @4Ghz, 12 GB RAM, SSD etc.etc. PC, and PS3 -- if the 2012 connected to aforementioned, the order would be in today. Doesn't look like I'd get a 2012 before 2013 either, unless I was very lucky...
I do take on the fact the screen is sweeter, CPU/GPU/RAM have all moved on, better resale... ahhh decisions

What's the attraction of connecting a PS3? Just to use the screen? Isn't a big Plasma not better for that?

Trying to cut down on screens and free up some desk real estate to look a bit sleeker.
