Title: Splitter
Post by: chrisr763 on December 06, 2012, 12:23:46 am
Whats the best splitter for GTI / GT / Jetta front bumper?

Where is the best place to source it from also?  :happy2:

Is it the front splitter you need, that screws onto the underside of the front bumper?

If so I got mine from Colbournes VW, Part number PV1K08071109B9

It cost £48.06 including VAT.

....What's the "best" splitter is very much a matter of personal preference.

You might find some helpful info here:  http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,13651.0.html

Its just such a shame (and a rip off ) that VW charge so much more for an edition 30 splitter over the VW one  :fighting:

Chris you can get  a PU replica of the ED30 for around the £110 mark. From what I have read it's an excellent copy.

Here you go:

Is that as big as the edition 30 one? What are peoples thoughts on the vortex style splitter?  :happy2: As ive seen them from the US and germany for around £110

Yep, apparently it's an exact copy of the ED 30 lip. From what I have read, seems to fit perfectly.

I am not a fan of the Vortex one as it has the twin strakes in the middle.

I like the Vortex one, i think it looks very ED30+ . Don't mind mine but if I decide to throw some more money away (on aesthetics for the front end) I will be getting the OSIR splitter and insert, just gives a better shape and look/balance to the front end IMHO. Cost too much for what it is though.

gillm's car was the inspiration for me getting mine - awesome  :happy2:

Agreed, not sure if it is just the splitter or  spoiler and splitter that they are selling?

Found a better picture?

http://www.eurotuningshop.com/produkt/golf-v/front-splitter-vw-golf-v-for-gti.html

it looks like it attaches to the original spoiler but the 'middle piece is missing'. Does anyone know if you can remove the middle part of the lower spoiler on a standard Golf Gti?

If it does fit not a bad price at £103 delivered :happy2:

Yes original GTI splitter is 2 piece.

It does look pretty smart and not bad money,

Keep us informed if you do order it,

Thanks for the info, think I will order it and give it ago, I was going to take the spoiler off anyway and code it red, I think adding this underneath should set it off quite nicely oh and a bit different than anyone else unless anyone has one fitted? if so would like to see pictures?

I've got an OEM votex one on mine and was ~£250 from kunzmann in Germany which is cheaper then the £290 the stealers want.

Pic of the votex on my car

I think there is 4 central slots and two like slot/vents just beside those.

Not really my cup of tea. Looking for edition 30 / vortex splitter really. Anyone know where to source them?

Fair enough if you want to pay £240 plus the cost of painting one from VW fill your boots, its just nice to see alternatives out there at I think are a decent price compared to VW.

For me, it's not just the cost of the splitter and painting it. If you're not colour coded, then a c/c'd splitter looks odd imo, so you'd have to factor in the additional cost of smoothing & spraying the skirts and rear bumper.

Whilst (imo) it may not work with all colours, the lack of paint work was part of the appeal of the rieger - it can go straight on and work with the standard exterior of the GTI  :happy2:

I'm going to make you guys sick by telling you that my VW dealer's workshop prepared, painted, and fitted my OSIR splitter free of charge while they were doing my wings rust free. But that's very unusual and I'm just boasting.  :ashamed:

Luckily I have a friendly bodyshop nearby who will sort me out when I get back with colour coding etc. :happy2:
