Title: Cheapest way to get a 'personal' plate?
Post by: jedi-knight83 on December 06, 2012, 12:35:16 pm
I'm thinking about changing my number plate. Id love something that means something but also dont really want to spend much money on it as its 'only' a plate.

Id just like something a bit shorter that doesnt show its a 55 plate really.

Whats the cheapest way to go about this :)

You can get on from DVLA direct - best thing is to try and think of what you'd like and go from there.

If you just want to hide the age of your car you can probably get something for about £250.

As above, go elsewhere you'll get nothing better and pay £80 more. I paid less than £400 for mine and £350 for the Wife's I think.

I had a saved search running on ebay with my initials... 3 months later a G reg 5 character number plate came up, got for £150 as only bidder - transfer fees were already paid!
Ebay has the cheapest deals if you're prepared to wait for something. Ignore all the stupid expensive ones on there where if you push that letter against that, and stick a bolt in there it spells the word TWAT etc.

Should keep an eye on the auctions too, have a look through the catalogue and if you like one you can bid on it :happy2:
I found my perfect reg on the auction and I was the only bidder

....That's what I did, and got 'VW05 RED' for £700 (in 2005).  :happy2:
