Hehe, happy days.

I've got the smooth ones on mine, great upgrade especially if you've got the chrome tip switches and RNS as it all matches in
-
I have smooth, look lovely :happy2:
-
Glad I seen this! the rough ones do look quite cool but I wondered if they would look tacky in the flesh!
Just ordered a set of smooth ones of the Bay at a price of 8.80 with free postage I definately cant complain!
will let you all know how they fit & look accordingly!
Spotty Dog!!!

The "rough" ones aren't rough! :fighting: - They're knurled and consequently much more tactile and grippy.
It's a no-brainer: Knurled!
Knurling is far from tacky and is much more quality 'engineering':

Some you guys are like Magpies - Anything shiney and slightly bling regardless of how well something functions :rolleye: [Unless you are running a 'Show' car]
-
I wasnt having a dig! in my opinion for me they look tacky... each to their own and all that Jazz :)
-
Yeah still not sure which look best....tough choice :popcornsoda:
-
I have the smooth ones from Awesome. I don't like the knurled ones to be honest, they're a bit tacky.
-
I've bought the cheapo smooth ones... £9 delivered from HK, worth trying, if I don't like 'em they'll resell for similar.

No offence intended. I actually hadn't read the whole thread, just the first post.

Haha, sorry, I'm none the wiser as to what I've said. I think I need to go to bed now. Having two children go down with 'flu is doing rather strange things to my mind.

Just purchased a set off these to! Worth a bash, thanks for pointing them out! Lets see how long they take to arrive

....You're not meant to take your children's medical drugs!
[I hope they get well soon - Children are usually much tougher than we imagine as parents] :happy2:

I like the knurled ones.
I had a 70's NAD amp with dials like these, and it looked ultra-cool.
-
at £9 just order both and see what you like
-
bl@@dy awesome gti, ordered mine 13th nov, still don't even have it in stock yet, said it was in stock when I ordered it
just sent them nasty e-mail

....They're a bit naughty that way - They don't put your payment through until they've got stock but meanwhile they've got you tethered to them with that particular purchase.
-
I think the knurled ones look better, especially if you can get them in black. I think the plain silver is a bit OTT. But to be quite honest, I wouldn't bother with either.
-
There are a few things that bother me about the climatronic rings:
- too large - they seem to produce very far forward and overhang the front edge of the buttons which I would hate. Would have preferred them with a flash fit.
- too wide - very chunky and wide in appearance
- smooth ones don't appear to be tactile. The knobs on the rns and the climatronic controls have (for want of a better word) "fins" that provide grip. The smooth ones take this away. I would prefer knurled for this very reason.
Which is why I didn't bother buying these rings.
-
The point about tactility is nonsense though. The knurled ones may be more tactile, but the smooth ones don't lack tactility. In fact you can very easily use one finger to control them. I agree about the flush fit, but ultimately they are as good as they can be and better than standard, in my opinion.

....Are you implying that you don't have sweaty fingers and the rest of us do?
As usual, it's down to individual tastes. Some folks go just for the look, others for the feel, etc
Black knurled but flush fit would be my ideal but the OEM are fine as far as I'm concerned, so I'd rather spend 9 squid in V-Power. Which reminds me that my local fisherman friend tells me he has some fresh scallops to shell for me, so I better go and collect  No little squid today.

Not being funny but how bloody tactile does a climate control dial need to be?

I was thinking this too -- Aesthetics aside, it's not like it requires knurling like a torch or gun parts for practicality reasons.

Precisely, the knurled finish is simply for an asthetic purpose exactly as the smooth finish is.... If my finger ever slips of my dial and I cause great injury as a result I will be sure to let you all know.... Until then, Smooth everytime for me! :)

....True. But when something is 'tactile' it also means that it communicates to the brain that it feels very well considered and reassuring. We don't actually need knurled surfaces on most torches but having them makes the user feel that what he is using has a certain quality and reliability even if that reliability is clearly never needed.
I guess that it partly comes down to what gives more pleasure to the individual (am not talking about sex here) - What it looks to the eye or what it feels like to the hand - Take your pick as both versions are on offer.
:happy2:

this is getting quite funny, so much debate over a £9 part lol
I agree with the point about them sticking out as the last thing you want if you are trying to keep your car oem but at the same time class it up with little bits here and there is for the rings to look like they have been half fitted by sticking out.
tbh I think at £9 just by both of them, put one of each on and see what you think,,
keep the best ones then use the others for a groovy pair of after market glasses :rolleye:
I wonder if the cheap ones on flee bay are the same quality as the £22 ones from awesome gti ?
after getting pi**ed off with awesome never having stock im just gonna buy both from flee bay and try them out,,,,, then make some groovy specs :jumping:
