Title: urgent help required, cylinder head issue and cam issue due to follower
Post by: JackG on December 08, 2012, 12:22:53 pm
Cut a long story short, having problems with the eddie, low fuel pressure fault, replaced coils and low pressure sensor on high pressure pump  heard a whine from rear of car, lift pump was making a noise, replaced that, issue still there  checked hpfp and the bucket wich was purchased around 5/6 months ago has snapped, gone into the head, the shaft of the hpfp has been running on the cam, scored the cam, worn the shaft away on the pump, bits are in the head....f*cked

Cam follower was brought from vw 5/6 months ago, have the invoice still...if the bucket hadnt failed  then this wouldnt have happend

Calling vw customer care monday...

Problem is the car is mods on the car  :sad1:

Im fuming, sh*tting myself, dunno what to do

Think it's only for the US...

Jack personally I would try to disguise any evidence of engine mods including putting the stock engine cover back on. If your hpfp is an APR one, peel off the sticker and if running revo or apr put the map back to stock.

If there are signs that your engine is modded then any chance of VW warranty or goodwill goes out the window.

Well the car has autotech internals on it...wich again are somewere in the cylinder head
I dont have a standard engine cover as i chopped it up to do the engine covet mod, i dont have any spares at all.

I used to work for vw (the garage its going to later) and im praying my old boss can help me out, i was actualy working there as a service advisor when we fitted it all, il
The bucket has snapped clean in half, thats a faulty part..end of as far as im concerned.

I feel so sick over all of this

Cheers alex  :congrats: i wont disturb you tonight, ill drop you a line tomoz morning around 11/12 if thats ok? Ill try and get some photos also, the car is back on my drive now, the hpfp shaft is half the lenth it used to be as it was running on the cam, and the cam looks rough as! The housing the bucket sits in is proper messed up also

Just goes to show how serious these followers are, and mine was changed 5 months ago!
I have spoken to my workshop manager at vw too and he said it will all be fine, they know there is a issue and we should be ok with standard edition 30
Thanks alex  :notworthy:

That's an expensive bill.  Cam is 250, side cover is 450, labour around 6 hours at vw.  Worth doing the chain and tensioner at the same time.  I do the job without removing the cam belt which saves a load of time.

If you don't have any joy with vw then we can sort something.

^^^ tbh if i had the choice of having work like that done for free by VW or paying Alex to do it i'd definitely be going with Alex.

i dunno where you're based, but my engine cover is in Leeds and i don't use it. you're welcome to borrow it for any inspection but it has an Audi top plate thingy on it rather than a VW one

good luck
