Hey guys, with Christmas coming up, i think i will treat myself to a whole new set off speakers. Only problem is, dont really know the speaker layout / size speakers in the GTI.
I used the search tab, could really find much. Looking to mainly replace front half of the car with half decent speakers, also fit a nice sub in the boot.
Can anyone confirm what sixe speakers are needed? and Also recommend some decent speaker from 2012 to fit in my motor.
Cheers guys. :drinking:

Yeah i saw that post a few weeks back....didnt really help in regards to what speaker sizes i need for each location, and only offered a choice of two...
More info from anyone would be great.

if i remember rightly the front are 16,5cm and rear 14 but i would have to check
-
Hey Ross
The speakers you need for the front can be either 3 way or 2 way, and are based on 6 1/2", the rears can be coaxial or 2 ways and are also based on 6 1/2".
I can supply you Hertz or Focal. Let me know how much you want to spend and I can put something together for you. I got some more Energy speakers in stock, which fit perfect front and rear.
Cheers
Luis

Hey Luis,
I know where the 2 way speakers go, but where can the 3 way (3rd speaker) go in the GTI?
Also, where does the second speaker go in the rear (should really go take a look in my car) but frickin cold out side :signLOL:
Ps, Im on a tight budget, what kind of amp should i be looking for? you have some options...?
Thanks

I was about to refer you to this post as well ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
But it's 6.5" speakers in the doors, a little larger then 3" mid and 1" tweeter in the front doors.
Bottom rear of door , 3" - middle of the door above the window buttons etc, tweeter is behind the mirrors on the the door.
Rear speakers are also 6.5" components
6.5" bottom of door and tweeter in front of the pull handle of the rear door.
Squeeguk - Has got a great choice of kits together to choose from.
Makes it a no brainer as well.

Luckily I found this post before posting my self two! I'm also looking to upgrading all speakers in the car. Only thing is I think I'd rather have then fitted by someone that knows what there doing :)

How old is your car as I think I am right in thinking that earlier models like my 2005 have 10 speakers in the car and later ones had 8.
Stand to be corrected but mine has 10 :happy2:

It depends what options were ticked when the car was new. Bog standard the GTI/ed30 had 8 speakers and upgrade systems had 10 speakers. Top option had a small amp under the front seat iirc.

mine is an 08 gti 3 speakers on each front door and 2 on each back door, total 10 speakers

Cheers Glidn good post.
Yep, standard it came with 8 speakers, upgrade was 10 speakers and then you could also have the upgrade amp option and then the upgraded amp Dynaudio option.
With the 3 ways you end up with a lot more bass, especially if amplified, using the 6 1/2" woofer in the door, with still great sound coming from the mid and tweeter. This is the system I have and everyone who has heard it is blown away by the clarity and the fact that I have such good range and no sub woofers.
Ross, pm me your number please and I will call you to discuss through various options is you like. Easiest way rather than pm or email tennis. Get you the best we can within your budget. As far as amplifiers go, you only need a 4 channel amp to amp the fronts and rears, if you run a sub too, then you can either run a 5 channel amp to amp all the speakers, or run a 4 channel, running the rears off the HU and bridging the two rear channels for the sub.

Well what im gonna do is pick up that head unit ( Pioneer AVIC-F930BT) see how the speakers sound on that, and then upgrade from there.
I would love nice kit from you, do you ever sell 2nd hand / refurbed / ex-demo top end kits. would love a high spec, just dont have the budget :sad1:

Cool. I don't do used stuff unfortunately, just too much risk. I can't be selling something that works for a week then packs up, so only new items. You can still get a great sound from a well set up system using mid range comps.

I can also mix and match and will be supplying kits which have everything you need, along with a compact yet powerful amp to fit under the front seat.
Let me know via pm what sort of budget you looking at and I can put something together for you.

Which are generally better? Hertz or Focal?
Think im looking for 3 ways up front, maybe changing out the rear (not sure if it worth it), Amp and a half dent sub....
Whats the best i can get for around £400.....(not alot i know ) :sad1:
-
They are both excellent speakers. It's like anything, those who prefer Focal will say they are better and vice versa. From a sound reproduction point of view, I personally prefer the smoother sound of the Hertz over Focal. It's personal preference at the end of the day, you can't knock either manufacturer.
I will send you a pm, but £400 will not get you what you are looking for, for decent equipment. You can go lower end for that though.
