Title: Safe to run a 225 width tyre on a 9" rim?
Post by: E30Dom on December 09, 2012, 08:24:18 pm
Thinking on swapping the TD 1.2s for something a bit showy next year now I've hopefully sourced some winter wheels... but the wheels I'm thinking is a staggered fitment with a 9" wide reae, but wanted to run a 225/40 tyre, is this safe to do and still press on round corners?

Cheers,

DOm

Wow - that is only a small amount of stretch - my new rims are going to be 9x18's too.

This is one of my old polo's with stretch - 165/50 on a 7x15

I'd say yes. I'm running 9.5 on the back of mine with 225/40 tyres. I've got some subtle stretch going on too. I do like my cornering and acceleration and have had no issues thus far. I know the jury's out still on tyre stretch, but so far for me, i've have no issues.

If you want to see some pics of my golf take a look at this thread which is discussing wide tyres and max sizes - http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,57631.msg650513.html#new
