Not a massive fan of the current one (sorry guys), but this new one looks nice :happy2:

Not feeling that I'm afraid
It just looks very awkward.
-
Not to bad but nothing special and prefer the looks of the current Octy. If anything its looks a bit like they've got a picture of the rapid and press enlarge on the photo copier lol
-
I think it's nice but I will be looking forward to the vRS version.
-
Is this on the same platform as the Passat/A4/Toledo?
Cos it looks like it's the same car with different jewellery.
-
Thats a nice looking car.
Was in a Skoda garage today and they had new current shape Octy VRS at £18k.
-

I think it is the new MQB platform which underpins the new A3 and Mk7 Golf.

-
Interior's very nice, but the exterior looks like the barstewards offspring of a Rapid and a SEAT Exeo.
Rumours have it that there will be AWD versions in 2014, so if there's any interesting engines to go with that I might take another look then...
-
I think the most interesting engine wise will be the 2.0l TSI.
-
That'll do!
-
AWD octy with the 2.0TSI sounds interesting, especially if it's a VRS as it'll be a good alternative over the golf .:R
-
I think it would be a bit close to the .:R.
Possibly a 1.8TSI with 4WD.
-
The normal range of Octavias always look clunky i think, but its better looking than the current model IMO. I reckon once the vRS trimmings get put on it, then it will be a very smart looking car
Im hoping they bring out a Rapid vRS which looks like this:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffc03.deviantart.net%2Ffs70%2Ff%2F2012%2F307%2Fb%2Fb%2Fskoda_rapid_rs_by_marko0811-d5ju9nl.jpg&hash=161fb6004b55bfc326c210db80b6651a5dea6c75)
-
will be interested to see the new vrs estate, as like the rs4 avant i think the estate versions of these cars are more "Q" and have more lasting appeal than the saloon version
-
The estate is definitely the one to get

I've seen that pic a few times now and really like it, if it looks like that it'll def be looking at it for my next car

your not the only one. I want an Octavia for some more room, but this would be perfect for me.
I think it shares the same platforms my Fabia so all my chassis mods go straight across, if its a 1.4TSI then ill use all my Fabias engine mods and go straight to stage 3 as well, or if its 1.8/2.0TSI then its a simple K04 bolt on job.
-
I just specced a Rapid Elegance to £20k. Insane. Might as well buy an Octy vRS on the VAT free deals Skoda do. I dare say you could get 0% VAT and 0% finance on the Rapid as well, but still.

Yeah cos your Fabia's engine mods have been a resounding success.

Is the Rapid Skoda's Jetta?
The last thing Skoda want to do is get expensive. Why would you buy a Rapid over a decently specced Mondeo?

Mine is the older CAVE 1.4TSi engine. Thats no longer available, and has been replaced by the CTHE 1.4TSI engine. The only issue i have had is pistons and misfires though. If the reliability is sorted, then this is a cracking engine.

Im hoping Ford decide to do a Mondeo ST again. Great cars.
-
That's a big if Sy. Reliability is everything.

There are still problems with the CTHE engines as well.
I love the engine, but i dont think id buy another car with it. VW just need to replace it with the 1.6 TSI ASAP.

My understanding is the Rapid is Golf sized and the new Octavia will be a bigger car altogether. There is even talk of a Rapid Hatch.
-

I agree, thats why i wouldnt go out and buy it straight away this time, ill let others find out instead. By the time a vRS is release the CTHE engine will be proven a solution or a failure. tbh, I wouldnt be surprised if they put in a 1.8TSI instead.

That seems to be the rumour.
-
So if the Octy is bigger the Skoda range will work more like this (in comparison to other models):
Citygo = Up!
Fabia = Polo/Fiesta/etc
Rapid = Golf/Focus/jetta/etc
Octavia = Passat/Mondeo/etc
Superb = Passat CC/Pheaton
The Octy and superb always used to sit in between categories imo but now with the rapid they seem to have a car per category if I've got the above right
I've seen mock ups of rapid hatchback and coupe and the hatch definitely seems to rival the focus:

in another ten years most members on here will be driving skodas :signLOL:
-
Can't see them making that mock up above, as the Rapid is already a hatchback...

Not if my wife has anything to do about it. I suggested test driving a Yeti before we bought her 3-Series Touring. She basically said she wouldn't be seen dead driving a Skoda
-
Her loss Andrew. :innocent:
-
Too right, I quite fancied one. Would have saved me a fortune too.
-
If they made a Coupe vRS, id be tempted. But only if it had a 2.0TSI.
-

If I'm honest I don't mind the Yeti at all.
-
I prefer the current model. Saw a beaut today, electric blue estate on a 62 plate. Nearly messed me boxers
-
The problem with the blue is that it is a lovely colour but the vast majority of the pre-facelift Mk2's were blue as it was the colour to have as you could only get it on the vRS.
Sadly this has carried over to the facelift variant too. Still nice mind.

I did say most, not all
Although I expect Skoda prices will rise as newer model come through. Which defeats the point of buying one
Price and value for money was the deciding factor for me to get a Skoda
-
I bought a vRS in 2006 because of the ignorance of the VW sales people and I'm back in one because, as Eddie says, they are excellent value for money.
Mk3 vRS could well be on the cards.
-
I'd always be tempted with a skoda, my dads on his 4th skoda (favourite, felicia and now on his 2nd fabia) and they have all been faultless, only had the usual wear and tear and maintenance. The local skoda dealer/garage is brilliant as well (independent not part of the dealer network)

presumably not a Mk2 Fabia vRS then

I will be looking into this aswell. Great VFM.. yeti idea now binned off..
-
I think it looks great, exactly what you want out of one of these - not to brash, not trying too hard. Just understated and great value for money.
I do have a massive soft spot for Yetis too.
-
Love the yeti cracking car

Lol nah, apart from the favourite they've been 1.9 diesels.. Sayin that his 58plate mk2 he has now I don't think is a 1.9, I'll have to find out tomorrow

:happy2:
-
Very tempting. Really need to see it in the flesh (car not me ).
Still annoys me that they refer to it as a TFSI engine and only with 200hp.
-
I'm loving the rear of that, especially the twin exhausts

Very Mercedes look about it :happy2:
-
I really like the current one, I think it's very macho without being too sharp edged  They'll do well to enhance on it for the VRS.
