I am thinking about getting the lower unpainted part of the rear bumper on my '05 GTI colour coded whilst it's in the bodyshop to get the boot rust fixed. Has anyone else had this done? Is it possible and if so, roughly how much will it cost? The bodyshop can't tell me until they can actually see it. They asked if it was textured, because depending on the type of bumper they might not be able to spray it. They said some cars have to have a new bumper fitted to be able to colour code.

There was a post up a while ago where someone bought the lower bumper from eBay already painted and he was happy with the finish fit etc

Thanks for that. But do I actually have to get a new part or can the original one just be sprayed?

Original can be rubbed down, smoothed off and you can use plastic filler primer, I would of thought any decent bodyshop can do it :happy2:

My lower part of the bumper has been spray and it was the original bumper on the car. The dealer I brought my car from said there was a slight scuff on the top of the bumper so he decided to spray the whole rear bumper to improve the look which really does look mint and you can't tell its been sprayed at all.
This is 1 reason why I brought the car I'm really no keen on the big plastic lower bumper. :happy2:
