What's the worst mod you've done?
The one that you probably spent ages sorting, then stepped back to take a look and said something like 'that looks really woeful, what was I thinking?'.

Buying the dam car for me :fighting:
-
Evoms. One man's music, is another man's pain. For me it was pain. Got rid instantly.
-
BSH True Seal, without a shadow of a doubt
-
I changed the aerial to a short stubby one and couldn't pick up any radio
-
BSH rear drop links.... waste of about 150 quid in total. Sounded like a skeleton having a wank in a bin
-

Priceless!
Try the Polo aerial - works almost as well in my experience and looks better IMO.

Cheap seat covers off of Ebay, move about more than a fly on cocaine. Have to be fixed back into place everytime you get out of the car!
-
Red BBS stickers (don't ask) to go over the VW centre caps on my Pescara's. A blind 2 year old could have produced something of better quality!
(Still got them if anyone what's them for a tenner )
-
Not by me but the dopey 17 year old that owned my car before fitted a dump valve to a tdi golf lol sounds o sh*te and I really hate it
Does anyone know part number for the hp hose with the dreaded clips :( I know it's about 100 gbp but not sure where to get one ? As he has cut that hose and put DV inbetween it :(
-
Lol. Send me your dv when you take it off! Want it for a laugh!

-
What you running Now Gaz? Evoms?
-
Must have been posted by now, but my vote goes to:
Any intake that fits onto the OE air box/engine cover
Forge DV spacer
-
Oh the forge spacer
I only had it fitted because Awesome Gti fitted it by mistake when I asked for the Forge DV
-
Cutting the original airbox up to fit the evoms... Red coil packs look so much better ;-)

seen an r32 scream past me today with a bl@@dy stupid sounding exhaust, some of the sounds these mods make are just plain stupid
here is my technical version of how it sounded lol
vvveeeeeeeTTTTTT,,,THEN SUCK, vvveeeeeeeTTTTT,,, THEN SUCK LOL
I mean wtf, what happened to a good hearty roar from a beefy exhaust and the sound of a good turbo,,, not a bl@@dy industrial hairdryer with asthma :rolleye:

:sad1: I quite like my cover :sad1:
-
Fitting the latest polar FIS
The amount of fault codes it caused was unreal,
Don't have one fitted and I have still lost the audio menu on my highline.
I might as well of paid kwick fit £220 to break my car
-
A bloody phone holder mounted in the centre of the dash by the previous owner. Want to get rid but be left with a big hole :stupid:. Why do people do it
-
For me it was fitting an intake.
-
It would appear that the various types of intake people have had fitted are going to be the most popular worst mod ever....*crosses of wishlist*

What's wrong with the wraps?
The carbon wraps were installed , 2 attempts by chameleon vehicle wrap specialists, and both times the wrap would shrink back to its ORIGONAL state and show the colour underneath the mirror housings. The stuff is fine on flat, no stretchable surfaces, but when you have to add heat to stretch into shape, forget it. Takes a few weeks but ends up exactly the same, and yes the wraps were heated to the point of tearing , so saying the wrap wasn't heated up enough, isn't the reason.Myself and another forumite both had the same issues. So we decided to bin the idea.

Go get the VWR one, it sounds great, doesn't look like a blind two yr old designed it and certainly doesn't have any warning lights flashing up! :happy2:

Hoping your over the moon with the result. :sad1: it's going to be a tad faster than the bus! :driver:

it'd be nice to actually just have the car :sad1: Should have just stayed stage 2 in hindsight.

Your interior trim should have been okay though? :)

It was yes, just outside on the mirrors

Another one for fitting an intake. Part load noise just where you don't want it. Did my head in.

Autotech HPFP internals for me....don't mean to start any debate here but it blew the seal in my HPFP
-
xenons ... I cant firgure out why one is white and one is blue considering they have been coded and I put new bulbs in them ! must be a faulty igniter.
-
Those stupid blank button stickers... cheap enough not to worry about though.
On other cars... Viggen rescue kit, which suspodely sorted out the sh!te GM bulkhead design... did it work... did it foook --- this emoticon has never been so true :driver:
-
A home made single wiper conversion on my mk1 golf years ago. Could never get it to sit right and one day just kept going round cleaning the bonnet :stupid:

are they oem xenons ? mine are both white !
-
Personally I think the WALK is my worst mods, in my view it only marginally aided traction.
And due to a sheared bolt in the part that it fits too, was a right pain in the ar$e and £££££'s to install.
Probably if the old part had just unbolted my view my not be so coloured of the WALK itself, but that's what happened.

Yeh i think that the igniter might be faulty tho . Ill have a wee look at it this weekend :) looks as if one light is not getting as much power to it as the other !

good luck to you on that one matey, that would be way beyond my limited skill set, I don't even know if I can change a bulb on the xenons myself, due to them being xenons I have not looked into if they are a sealed unit or anything,,,, guess I will deal with it when and if it happens.
will prob be an emergency ( help me ) post in the future by me lol.
every other bulb I can do on most cars but xenons ?
let us know how you get on buddy but if it was me it would be an auto electrician I think

They work the same way as a halogen light pretty much .. the bulb goes into a holder there is a round plastic cap that goes over that then you put the igniter over that and a wee plug in the igniter gets plugged in ... relatively simple .. pretty footery but not 2 bad. Easier than it sounds anyway :happy2:
-
will keep that in mind, many thanks :happy2:
-
Personally don't have a bad mod...yet.
Interesting about the intakes. Which ones are people happy with?
If I did go for one the Forge Twintake is currently top of my list I reckon (although pretty pricey).
-
My Evoms is fine... its quite loud i suppose but i dont mind it because when cruising it virtually silent.
-
K&N panel filter which was probably my first mod. Car sounded faster, I tried to convince myself it was faster but I don't think it made any difference. Logged it with vcds which showed it flowed less air than the stock filter.
For me it was a waste of time and money. I did learn I needed a proper intake though.
-
It wasnt my mod but my brother's: Possibly the LED/neon strips he put under the car. They never mounted properly, the rear strip never went on because the exhaust was in the way, and the front came off when a rabbit played chicken with the car and lost. One day he got fed up with them and just threw them into a bush on the side of the road! Was good fun at xmas time, as you could put them on a multi-colour setting :P
I cant call it my "worst" mod (as I like everything I've done so far), but the most painful (and expensive!) has been my Milltek. Spent too much money going from a non-res to a res, to finally having a custom centre-section put in place. Finally got it right now (I think!)
-
Also, putting big bumpers on my mk1, just never got them to look right, Remember getting to inters ( back in the days of Crowthorne, 93 i think) and everyone elses looked better. Thinking back over the years think ive had a fair share of Worst Mods :happy2:
