Title: The cost of a keeping a Mk5 GTI
Post by: Northerner on December 15, 2012, 06:56:42 pm
Having owned my GTI for 3 months and to settle an argument with one of the lads re ownership costs, i thought it may be worthwhile charting the maintenance spend to see how much the car costs over a period of time.

Its not going to be one of the most riveting of reads but may be useful especially if my spend seems to be higher or lower than yours.

I bought the car (2006 5dr Manual) at the start of October and have spent:
£50 for an oil change
£31.20 for new headlamp bulbs (Phillips Xtreme vision)
£141.87 for new front discs & pads (Pagid)
£392 for 4 new tyres (Goodyear F1 Assy 2's)
£3 for screenwash

So running total= £586.87
MPG ave = 31.2 (read from fuel comp)

More costs to follow this month for 4 wheel alignment and service.

I'll aim to update this thread every month to keep a rolling figure.

Car looks good there.  :happy2:

If you not planning on modding the car it will cost no more than any other car to run. Unless your Turbo blows or Cambelt goes twang they are very solid cars if looked after. Get a full diagnostics check done and update parts when/if needed.

How often are you changing the oil?

Are you running winter wheels/tyres?

Are you on a Time & Distance Service schedule?

Brake fluid change, aircon regas or aircon service?

All normal running costs IMHO.

Current Ave mpg: 29.4mpg

As the k03 version imho, lacks umph, its off to Statlers on Friday for a service and Stg1 map. Not sure whether to go for GIAC or Revo....but the modding bug has bitten. Also need to sort the random groan from the nsf when braking and turning at the same time.
