Seriously though, I bought some Auto Glym Engine Degreaser from Halfords a while ago and it is pretty good. Just spray it on an agitate it with a brush, then rinse off. Does a really good job and isn't expensive.

Meguiars Super Degreaser is your best bet.  Can be diluted to any strength depending on application.  It's also great for spraying in wheel arches, door shuts and worked into other areas of trim.

£24 might seem like a lot to spend straight away, but the gallon tub will easily last you a year.

Good old fashioned GUNK, I used the spray foam recently and found it was fine, I'd just bough an old Pissrat estate and the engine was a total state, took about 15mins to get it gleaming.
