Title: Realistic Car Bucket List
Post by: Mk5 GTian on December 16, 2012, 06:55:12 pm

There's no price limits on this, as what is realistic for one man is dream territory for another!! But I thought it was about time I got my Top Ten list together! I've put them in the order that they are most likely to be ticked off, rather than in terms of preference. What would be on your realistic car bucket list?

Mine:

Subaru Forester XTE (Currently looking for one as my work vehicle)
Mk4 R32
Renaultsport Clio 172 Cup
Golf R
BMW E46 M3 convertible with CSL alloys
Triumph Dolomite Sprint
Another Mk2 GTi 16V
Porsche 911 997 Turbo
Vicarage Jaguar Mk2 3.8
Ferrari F355 GTS

Not particularly exotic, but hopefully I'll be able to  tick this lot off in my lifetime, fingers crossed!

Out of all my list, this is one of my favourites. Released in 1973, it did 0-60 in 8.4 seconds, which was incredibly quick for it's day, and still not slow now! I believe cars like this paved the way for the Mk1 Golf GTi.

It's strange but everyone I've known who's had exotic stuff hardly uses it or sold it as it was hardly been used. So I've never seen the point even after extended drives.
Have had wims of thinking of buying an old exotic italian sports car but came to my senses.

I've had most the cars I've wanted over the past 20 years, so my lists short.

One of my goals next year is I must cut down again this year as currently have 7 cars and i want to really get down to 4 so I can have them all at home.

A couple of cars I have not had but would like are,

1960s mini cooper s
1990 ur quattro 20v (was dissapointed by the 10vs lag)

Also fancy a 2013 FIAT panda 4x4 for winter use to replace the daihatsu/leon I currently use.

So I guess the list would be

1960s mini cooper s
1990 Audi quattro 20v
2013 Fiat panda 4x4
riley elf
Golf GTI mk1
Golf GTI

This rings very true, a mate of mine a few years ago did alot of work for a guy who owned his own vehicle salvage company collected cars from all round europe etc and this guy loved his ferrari's and had a few but his and his wife's everyday cars..... what ever the current golf gti of the day was!! and his daughters both had gti's aswell

Subaru Forester XTE (Currently looking for one as my work vehicle)

....Quite a few locals in my neck of the woods in the deepest wilds of Dorset/Devon, have those Subaru Forester's as work vehicles. Very practical and sturdy indeed, so a great choice.

A very close mate of mine (friend and fellow public school inmate going back over 50 years) who lives on the highest house on Exmoor (I can only visit him in Summer) has a Skoda AWD - He's had high performance cars but they're not practical for his family's needs nowadays.

At my age, apart from a very modified Land-Rover short wheelbase Defender....

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fb308%2FRedRobin_05%2FLandroverDefender_Twisted.jpg&hash=ae28c4e3c9355e1299e160a16ed7b445927e3e1a)

And a Ferrari engine'd Nimik 2CV....

Otherwise, I've already got the car I want. But a Ferrari F12 or 458 would still be very tempting though.

Absolutely  :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats:

You know Robin, just a few minutes ago I was looking out of my window at my car, and I thought to myself "I bloody love that car. I'm really content with it, and it's perfect for my needs. There's no other car I'd want as my main every day drive". It was a feeling of real contentment. I sometimes lose sight of what I do have when I'm dreaming of what I don't.

The biggest problem having so many cars is you end up using the daily driver all the time and the others may see daylight one it twice a year if there luckie, the longer you have them the less they seem to get used too sadly. So what's the point. It's something I've been thinking for the past year and so have come to the conclusion what's the point in having so many cars. That's why I'm cutting down to a daily, a winter daily and one or 2 classics at most. Don't see the point in anymore in this country anyway.
I'm actually cutting down on everything materialistic wise, not for money reasons but after spending the past year trying to sort out my late fathers eatate I don't  want to put my family through this if anything happens to me. It sort of opened my mind to the amount of stuff people accumulate and keep we just don't need.
