I noticed that recently when my rear door lock wasn't working properly, when I locked the car the drivers door alarm LED would quickly flash a few times, stay on solid for about 5 seconds, and then start flashing normally. I seem to remember that it did a similar thing once when my alarm siren wasn't working.
Does anyone know if the number of flashes is significant, or the duration of the solid red light? It's obviously doing it to warn you that something isn't right!
Any info?
Cheers
Paul.

Sounds like the alarm siren has failed.
I'm sure it's located inside the drivers side front splash guard.
Good Luck!

Er, no..... Everything is working fine.
I seem to remember that it did a similar thing once when my alarm siren wasn't working.
It was staying on, but that was down to the faulty door lock this time. Once I'd swapped the lock, it is now flashing normally.
The question was... does anyone know whether the flashing is different depending on what error it is trying to indicate? ..and if so, what are the different flashing patterns?

Anything in the manual?

When mine done this in was the siren and it indicates a fault on the alarm system whether it is the siren, lock etc, best bet is to have it scanned. To rule out the alarm sit in the car and lock it to see if it goes off to rule that one out

Not looked in the manual.. never have!
Everything is currently working on my alarm system now that I've replaced the faulty lock so the LED is currently flashing normally. Do we think it is purely a 'there-is-something-wrong-somewhere' error indication for the alarm system?
I only asked in case there was different flashing for different problems, so that it might be of use to someone out there!

If all is well then iirc it flashes fast then goes to its normal steady flashing mode, if there's something wrong with the system you get the solid light then the normal flashing.
I wouldn't bother checking the manual as there's nothing in there about it.

Something I just came across taken from an A8 manual I think.
"If the diodes light up continuously for about 30 seconds when the vehicle is locked, instead of flashing, this means there is a system malfunction."
Didn't go into specifics though. Seems to be linked to faults in the lock modules and also the siren itself.
