I've mentioned on a few threads that I've been massively underwhelmed with my Revo Stage 1 map in comparison to the Storm & PDT maps. I mentioned this on a thread on their Facebook page, and they invited me up to HQ in Daventry today.
I met Kevin there who took the car out, datalogged it and came back reporting that it felt almost stock, and the reason for this was that, although the map was on, there were no settings! Not QUITE sure why this was, but I've been underwhelmed by it since it was done in September, so it's not something that's recently occurred. No wonder I thought Revo was over-rated!! A big thanks to Kevin @ Revo for sorting it out for me. :happy2:

Anyway, I took it out with it's new settings and OH MY FUC*ING GOD!! :notworthy: It is so much quicker, particularly in the low rev range, but still massively quicker throughout the whole range. The torque is outrageous, sitting on the motorway doing 60 in 6th, I put the foot into the carpet and it just flies away like a big diesel! Back in love with my car. It feels quicker than my old car with PDT Stage 1 (which is a cracking drive, brilliant map) But it is also more economical than the Storm map. I got into the mid forties mpg driving sensibly around the A roads leading back to the M1. I never got that before. On the way up driving sensibly at between 60 and 70 I got 32.5mpg on a 91 mile trip, on the return journey, I got 35.7, and I was having a lot more fun, particularly with the torque! The acceleration for over-taking is in a different league now, and I've got that buzz back to just go out and drive for fun again that I used to get with my old PDT mapped car, and this one when it had a Storm map.

But is it worth the extra dough? I'm not sure how big a gain the performance is against my old car (PDT). As I'm still insured on it, I might ask her If I can take it for a 'gentle'cruise' and then drive mine immediately after. However, if the fuel economy gains are the same in my area with my normal driving, then i'd say probably.

Good to hear your car is running well Ian.
I would be interested to have a ride out in yours on saturday to see how it compares to my AMD map.
-
No settings.
Have you had the battery off?

No problem Ben :happy2:

Nice easy fix there! I admit that REVO does feel more urgent and aggressive than our maps, but thats the way we like it
you and the missus now need to go and race each other :rolleye:

Nope.

Are you using an SPS switch to apply the stage 1 map ?
-
Apologies should have said 'were you' ?

Don't get me wrong Dave, I am a massive fan of your map, and as I mentioned, her (my ex now) car is a brilliant drive. The power delivery in that car is beautiful, so well balanced.

I don't have an SPS switch. I'm not entirley sure what Revo did to it!
-
Schweet! Welcome to the Revo gang! :happy2:
-
If you don't mind me asking and I know its more how the car drives but what figures did u get?

Get yourself out in the rain and compare the two maps. See which one wheel spins like crazy. :driver:

glad you got it sorted

Will let you know in the New year Tom. Initially I got 253 bhp and 295 lb /ft, but I'm booked in at Storm in early January for rolling road again now Revo have sorted it out.

The Revo didn't earlier. (much!) :signLOL:

Would love thoughs figure, childish but just so I can have more than my mate in his 32
Just does come at a high price from REVO.
-
Does sound like the battery been disconnected or a fuse taken out or something causing the revo setings to go back to 0-0-0
-

So you can sit in the rain wheelspinning whilst he's already 50 feet up the road?

I hear you, but I'd know about that if it had happened. It's not had a battery issue or disconnection, nothing electrical has gone wrong with it other than a bulb blowing. And it felt weedy from when I drove it out of Storm Developments after installation.

Nice figures for Stage 1 Ian :happy2:

Good news. What settings were applied. Any engine mods?

I'll find out from Kevin at Revo tomorrow re: settings. No engine mods other than RevD DV. Has recently had a big service with new plugs, new filters inc. Pipercross panel filter, oil change and cam follower, so all in tip-top order for remap. And always run on VPower of course!

....So do we conclude that Storm Developments weren't 'up to speed' enough to recognise that their Revo installation hadn't been completed properly? Didn't they log or test-drive your car after installing your first Revo remap? :surprised:

Was just about to ask the same.

I send a lot of work to storm and am very good friends with the lads there, I have had this happen before where I tuned a car with Revo, datalogged it and all was good and then it's come in a few days later with 0-0-0 settings. Odd thing is I've only had it once.
Wonder what the voltage needs to drop to before the ME9 ECU loses the ability to store the data..... (Goes off to find my ME9 tech sheets)

You've got me worried now as I haven't driven mine for a week :scared:

....Nowadays I often don't drive her for 7-10 days but then I'll go for a fun drive just to exercise her and satisfy my lust. I've never had a data loss due to this. I'm on Revo Stage 2 installed and looked after by JKM and by Revo HQ.
Revo Kev is a top bloke who knows what he's doing.

Nice to hear your back in love with the Golf again fella!
SPS switch is needed I think! :happy2:
