Title: Uprated exhaust hanger?
Post by: Baz300 on December 21, 2012, 01:49:44 pm
Is there any uprated exhaust hangers for the downpipe on a gti?

The one that has the 2 mushroom type fittings

I'm getting rattling from my downpipe and have double checked that everything is tight, the hanger seems tight but the mushrooms have slightly deformed.

Do you have an uprated dogbone mount insert installed?

It's recommended you install one to decrease movement at those hangers.
iirc RedRobin split his a few years back before addressing this problem though he now uses the VW Racing mount.

^ This isn't an uncommon issue on remapped cars putting down more power onto the road. Milltek addressed the problem with their exhausts supply by including a free polyurethane lower engine mount insert. As 'bacillus' rightly says, I later changed to VWR engine mounts throughout.

My exhaust mounts haven't split like that, but look a bit more squashed in.

I'm just comparing the ECS and power flex ones just now

What do VW call the exhaust hanger in this pic?

I hate going in and asking for a "thing" then have to try and explain it

....I don't know its official VAG part name but if you explain that you are looking for the part which is the lower hanger for the exhaust downpipe and which is attached at the rear of the subframe, the VW dealer's Service Desk probably still won't know what you are talking about, but their Parts Manager or any VW TechieMechie will.

Unfortunately, my photo doesn't show the stamped part # clearly enough.
