Title: RCD510 and retrofit aux in
Post by: jonnym on December 23, 2012, 08:04:28 pm
OK, so this is my RCD510 --->

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fn600%2Fjonmaw1%2FIMG_2106_zpsa4a67d76.jpg&hash=004be0d83e75cffc0344629c5cd5462a27ea5738)

Now I need the music on my blackberry in my life and the SD card I have at the moment simply isn't cutting it. The RCD510 was fitted when I bought the car and there is no aux input either in the glove box, centre console or in the armrest bit. So I think the RCD510 is an upgrade and my golf never actually had a aux in.

So, is my trail on thought correct? What can I do to get a aux in fitted that works with the RCD510? I'm thinking of someone to be a retrofit but before I make enquiries thought i'd ask the questions!

Forgot to say it doesn't have the sat nav, but it does have a aux touch button.

Cheers.

hmm, my search didn't go back far enough!

Excellent stuff thanks eddie and looks fairly simple. Just need to get the parts and find someone with VCDS!

Can I put the input anywhere else instead? I don't actually have an armrest - i called it that as I didn't want to say the centre thing!

From doing some reading, will this install effect the 6-cd changer I have with my RCD510?

you can install an aux in without cd changer / ipod dock / mdi

So it will work with it? I take it I can still use the CD changer (ie: the install won't disable the cd unit)

Apologies for my non-technical mindedness - its not something I have much experience with!

Thank you once again!

Sorry to jump on this thread, whats the cheapest / easiest way to get an ipod charger into the glovebox that will work with my rns-510? Bought a short car charger but my ash tray lid wont close with it and the cable in place.

Can it just be a cable in the glovebox and not the thing under the armrest?

......and how much for the one I was on about? Don't need an ipod connector, just the normal 3.5mm jack input.
Cheers
