Hi guys
Basicall i put 0w 40 oil in to my 1.9 diesel engine while it was hot, and i normally use 0w 30 . i turned the ignition and it wouldnt fire up and it wudnt start properly until i put ma foot down on the accelrator a few times. And then i got the engjne management light on and the glow plug light flashing(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.tapatalk.com%2Fd%2F12%2F12%2F27%2Faqurusun.jpg&hash=dba0e64333994084de9d29924f698e482cb5a885)
And now after a couple of drives it all got back in to its normal running condition , ma local vw specialist open/ back on 2nd jan and im driving to Germany this sunday . Can some one advise me oj whether everyhting is ok and its back to normal or shall i take it in to a garage.

IMO just topping up with a different viscosity oil shouldn't cause a warning light to come on.
Have you checked your rear brake lights to see if you have a blown bulb?
If you intend to go to Germany at the weekend then look in the vcds form for someone with a vcds cable to scan your car to find out what the fault is/was.
-
Thanks for that and now again the flow plug error light is flashing damn this car
-
Could really do with getting it scanned. Just out of interest, do you have cruise fitted?
-
Yes retrofitted

The flashing light comes back when the car is rolling on cruise control. And i cant use cruise control white the flashing light is on. Has this got something to do with the cruise control?
-
I'm only thinking back to when I saw this light on my mk4. The cruise wouldn't work as in I couldn't set it to sit at any speed. It turned out to be the brake pedal switch. There is also one for the clutch. These are tied into the cruise control for safety purposes.

Had this on my mk5 , i fitted a new brake pedal switch and its been fine ever since

if the engine has a major fault then cruise won't work, get it scanned to see what shows up

Fabia VRS's have a similar issue too (1.9td) and as said above it is sometimes linked to the brake lights and pedal switch. Where are you based?
