Title: Advice required
Post by: spimmers on December 27, 2012, 02:18:05 pm
My car has an issue... When it gets to around 279mph or around there in 5th or 6th gear the revs die and you can't do anything you have to leave it for around ten seconds and then the engine will come back to life. Oh and the emissions light is on but that's been on and off for ages Is there you guys could suggest for me to try seen as I'm of work for chrimbo. Cheers

Of course you are driving at 110mph on a private road :stupid:

I don't remember asking what people think about the speed, I was asking for advice on the fault. Don't have vcds ill either contact someone on the list or pay a garage. Cheers joedarka

It's possibly overboosting which is throwing it into limp mode...is the car mapped?

I think it's fair enough for people to comment on the speed you posted; don't be so touchy.

After the road deaths on the M6 over Christmas you think it is okay to travel at 110mph and pick up an immediate ban carry on!

It was only some friendly advice and some members on here  may or may not be Police :happy2:

Actually the 10 second thing...sounds like DV or N75 may be sticking open. As Joe says a scan should show the issue.

No the car isn't mapped. I had problem a few weeks ago the car was misfiring which ended up being coil packs done free of charge due to recall. Checked the coil packs they seem to be seated ok and the cables are connected correctly.

Do you have a forge DV?

No I did change the DV for a rev d one in September?

Ok I can't really help...maybe someone else has heard of a Rev D sticking open? You could take it off and squirt some lube into it as it's a piston type...I know the forge ones need maintenance to keep them working properly, but have never heard of a Rev D needing this.

Might be worth a try though.

Someone much more knowledgeable than me is required!

Cheers, I did buy the DV second hand of someone on here so could be something like that, what lube should I use on it?

....Yeah, I noticed that too. I think it was stated at around 110mph in one post.

Putting aside the question of the dubious wisdom of doing 110mph on the UK's public roads for now, it sounds as if an engine limiter is kicking in but I don't know anything about the TDi's.

Irrespective of any 279mph warp speeds it might be helpful for someone to know the RPM at which the power dies.

KY Jelly is good , or synthetic red grease is what they use on Forge DV's I think.

But I would use a grease that they use in the automotive industry. KY might break down and disappear.

As has been said it sounds like its overboosting and going into limp mode... you need to get it scanned.

Have you checked the fenway valve? Mine has the same problem as you only at 278mph and it turned out to be that. As for lube I just us a bit of spit or go dry for a bit of friction.
