Car has been running fine but a few weeks ago i was overtaking a car and was accelerating hard, it was fine and then it sort of died on me, as in no power the engine was still running, it was like it had no fuel then after a few seconds it went again, any how on the way to work tonight the exhaust warning light came on,car was running fine. then on the way home i gave it a lot of throttle and the same problem returned. basically if i drive normal it runs fine but when i give it the beans it goes then dies then picks up again.
i hope this will make sense to someone and im hoping its a cheap fix.
its a stage 1 DSG but ive had the map on the car for a long time now and never had any problems until now.
thanks for any replies in advance

get it logged with VCDS.
Might be coilpack/spark plug. Maybe even lambada sensor.
-
I've just had the same prob with my stage 1 eddy, vcds said misfire of cylinder 4 so swapped spark plug 4 with no 1 but same prob and then did same with coils and turned out to be the coil, £30 ish from dealer happy days. Ideally you need to get it plugged in 1st
-
thanks for replies guys, the car has had new coil packs and spark plugs within the last 12 months, but looks like ill have to get it logged to be sure :happy2:

Had the car fault read by a friend today, and came back with this code: P000A, he said it was something to do with a camshaft sensor? Anyhow he cleared the fault and i took the car out to test and it still has the problem but the fault light hasn't come back on yet. Just a matter of time i think.
Well I've had to bite the bullet and got it booked in to VW Eurocanterbury next week.
-
has anybody got any ideas on this fault code?

holy sh!t  feel for you mate... is that how much they cost to replace!? :surprised: was it rev A camshaft?
-
no just a broke one! lol sorry ive got to keep on laughing. not sure what it is, is a common thing with a rev A
-
that does include a new cambelt as well, even tho mine was done 18 mths ago, they suggested they always replace it when taking the cam out.
-
VW started to explain about the fuel pump and easiest way he could explain was something about a plunger connection from fuel pump to camshaft was causing no fuel explaining loss of power. So i was expecting him to say i needed a new fuel pump, and he said the camshaft has worn so needs replacing! does this sound viable!
-
When was your cam follower last replaced?
-
cam follower x 1. How old is your car may i ask? If it's 5 or more years old, i would hope that you changed the cam follower when you went Stage 1!?

its 2007 and ive not had it replaced, is it worth getting them to change that whilst doing the camshaft?
-
The follower will be replaced.
How many miles are on the car? Has it had an oil change every 10k miles?

This may have happened to your car then if they're saying a replacement camshaft is needed: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,41330.0.html

Are you running a hpfp?
This is real barstard - I have an '07 too and am trying to find the time to replace the follower. My dealer told me it wasn't an issue...http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,57710.0.html

My dealer told me the same thing... the service manager didn't even know what I was on about - asked the lead mechanic, and he said he's never replaced one :stupid: Doesn't fill you with much confidence. Wouldn't even give me a price, said it would have to be a time based job... cough... fook that!
I think this must be a lot to do with dealers seeing newer cars, less than 3 years old, standard and less GTI's than other models, where problems with the Cam follower are few and far between. Once the cars get older people seem to go to indy's who know a lot more about this problem.
-
is the cam follower changed when changing the cam-belt do you know??

Nope standard fuel pump, also i doubt this is changed when they do the cam belt as mine was done 18 months ago
-
Cam followers have had issues for years', just replaced camshaft and followers on pd. had a similar prob on GTI however fault only occurs when hot turn out to be hp pump breaking down.
Hope your car get sorted !
-
Thanks, looks like ive learnt the hard way £1100 :indifferent:
-
I would however get a 2nd opinion from an Independent Specialist, they would be cheaper if nowt else and would know what they're doing!! Where abouts are you???

Too late its at VW now and all stripped waiting for new camshaft to be fitted tomorrow.
Just got off the phone with VW asking about the cam follower and was told it was the camshaft thats worn not the cam follower?
-
Fair enough, but as a precautionary measure, id have yr cam follower changed as soon after as u can BY an Indie!
-
They are going to replace it when they do the camshaft
-
I had the same problem at as you which only became apparent with the engine under high loading after I remapped it. I would ask them to keep your old camshaft so you can see the damage though :happy2: Its generally the faulty cam follower which causes the wear to the camshaft lobe itself. When they removed mine the follower and cam lobe were both equally well worn. Had the DV done at the same time (which was split) and been running like a dream since

Can i ask what you paid to get it sorted.

I used an Indy in Exeter called Volkscraft. All in price including Camshaft (Rev B) cam follower, DV, Oil Change, Cambelt was around £640 - £650 if I remember rightly.

Should be picking my car up today, if they get it finished that is, I will let you guys know. I will be writing a letter to VW UK to see if I can get anything from them, doubt it but worth a try. I'm losing my love for VW's slowly but surely. German reliability my arse! Has anyone got an address or email for VW UK Head office?

Post a photo of the cam 'end on' so we can see if it's 1 or 2 piece.
Part no. looks like an A which I thought had been changed by '07. Was yours built in '06 I wonder?
-
sorry these are the only photos i took whilst i was picking the car up, so never brought camshaft home with me
-
It is an A revision you had. Did you find out the build date?
