Stunning car, and you've got the best colour! I went to the Alpine Renault Sport factory a couple of years ago and saw the R26's being made down the production line. Brilliant!

Great cars, a true example of a car maker listening to what people want.

Imagine if you could buy a GTI off the shelf in track slag spec....

There is no way you can do a 8 minute 30sec run. If you film with your ipod and show me that time i will show my arse at the next meet.  :innocent:
Title: Re: frenchie
Post by: jhtrophy on July 09, 2009, 07:25:06 pm
dont see why not mate, 8min 50 in the clio few times, how do i ipod it? im talking bridge to gantry here, thats not the full lap as the official times are..
Title: Re: frenchie
Post by: Top Cat on July 09, 2009, 07:30:26 pm
I reckon 9 minutes could be possible if you knew every bend but you would need some exotica and serious talent to knock 30 more seconds off that time. Greenouse and PG where not hanging about i can assure you and i dont think they got lower than 9: 40.
Show me the evidence and i will gladly take my hat off to you and call you sir from then on.  :happy2:
Title: Re: frenchie
Post by: jhtrophy on July 09, 2009, 07:35:56 pm
dont get the big deal mate, its not my first time!! :signLOL: i did an 8 50 in the clio, i know lads who have done faster in standard 182 cups, clarkson did 10 in a diesel and was very slow when you watch it!!! i k now a lad who did an 7min 20 in an m3!!! exotica, dont need that fella. check nout bridge to gantry .com some 6s on there
Title: Re: frenchie
Post by: jhtrophy on July 09, 2009, 08:25:52 pm

the lap record for an r26 r( full lap a good 30 sec longer) is 8min 17 so 7min 50 ish BTG, with all due respect to greenhouse i think it was his first time? lol, you know what i mean, dont like to be called a lier, 8min 50 in trophy with some to give.
Title: Re: frenchie
Post by: Top Cat on July 09, 2009, 08:34:09 pm
I am only judging it on what i saw Greenouse and PG do. 1 minute 15 seconds faster is a massive chunk.
And i am not calling you a liar i just dont believe it.

As i say show me a filmed lap of you doing it and i will take my hat off to you and have the utmost respect for you until my dying day.  :happy2:

TC, this is a sub 9 minute BTG (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmI57FGDVUw&feature=related) in a normal MKV GTI like ours, it's a bit aggressive but his lines are nice. Note also that he slows for road works at the mini carousel - someone with knowledge of the track could get a lighter, LSD'd Megane round there faster, no problems.

You can scream around the bends like a pro and feel like you're giving it everything you have, but unless you know where to keep your foot in and carry speed, you'll lose time, and over that kind of distance, it all adds up.

got back yeasterday car was spot on, did a few early nines and a couple of 840s, strange week, lots of people in mercs and bmw with wifes and kids in!! and the bikes!!did not get one clear lap and i waited till late, lol, best bit was two laps with a german gt3 rs, went to let him past as he was still behind me after first two corners and he waved me to keep going, after two laps we came in, he came over and shook my hand thanking me for showing him the lines as he was new to the ring!!! ha ha. that 830 will come!! little worried about the new ring werx as the cars out were tourists getting in way, redline mag were out too with two sts and rs, good bunch of lads.

the megane r26's are great cars, i sold my one few weeks back same time as i sold my golf, here were some pics of it with a cage in and carbon bonnet, it had a few mods done to the engine but nothing big, the car came to life when it was on the track, amazing cars on the track, the gearbox started to play up on it, quite common so i was told so i got shot of it
