Hi all,
Been having a strange issue with my recently acquired golf mk5. Its a 2.0 TDi 170, i know its a diesel, but hoping someone can shed some light on this issue.
Basically the glow plug light begins flashing after about a mile of driving from cold. There is no change in power once the light is on, but i would say the car is lacking power, having driven other 170's.
I have had it put on vagcom by a mate and this is all it keeps coming up with.

I have searched and searched the internet to no avail, the 006 short to plus seems to not be a common issue.
These flaps work differently to the petrol engines i understand. As this is done via vacuum, and the petrol uses a motor.
I have had the intake off and check the flaps, they are all complete, clean, and free moving.
I have replaced the actuator which moves the bar controlling the flap angle, as the diaphragm was split.
I have also replaced the one way inline valve going to the actuator.
I have an excellent vacuum at the pipe leading into the valve, so no leaks before this valve. But no vacuum coming out of the valve at any point. ive tried swapping the pipework around, checked the wiring from the valve back to the bulkhead area and that is all as it should be.
Im not even sure when these flaps should be opening/ closing, does anybody have ideas weather it is temperatue, or RPM replated?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks Dan

Maybe try a basic setting of the Intake Manifold Runner

Thanks for the reply, ive tried that and as it seems that is for the TFSI engine which would have the motorised flaps. i cant perfrom a basic setting on the TDI being that it is vacuum.

seem to recall having this fault showing up on my car(170 tdi) bout 3 weeks ago...
erased and done near 1000kms since with no reocccurence

My code erases, but as soon as I've done the mile from cold, the light is back on flashing until I turn the car off again.

Does anybody know for definite, which part is the manifold runner?
Tps are telling me its the flaps inside the inlet, just before the head ports. Which is what I have changed the actuator for.
But upon doing some research online, people are referring to the throttle style valve before the EGR valve. Which is also referred to as a anti shudder valve. This would make sense as to why the vacuum controlled flaps appear to not have any issues.
Any advice appreciated as always!

As far as I'm aware, all the anti shudder valve does is block off the air flow into the inlet manifold once the ignition is turned off. If you turn it off you will hear a high pitched electrical whistle/buzz coming from it. Then after a few seconds delay it will click again. This is to stop overrun and the possibility of a runaway engine.

Just for future reference, I have replaced the anti shudder valve, and the problem has gone!
Thanks for the help!

dns2491 hoping you or others can help with a similar issue ...my intake manifold is leaking ..garage said only way to fix this was to replaces the whole manifold which is £££££. They said that its leaking from where the actuator goes into the manifold which has worn away. Power is rubbish from lower down the revs but builds up ok from then on. From your post it looks like you have replaced some parts in particular the one way inline valve going to the actuator perhaps could fix my issue ?
any advice much appreciated cos this is severely annoying now :/

forgot to mention mk5 golf gt tdi 170

Get manifold without flaps from Bkd engine which is made from aluminium and blank pressure pipes.
-
..so no way to fix it ? ...any disadvantages of fitting the BKD manifold ? what needs to be done to get it working right ?
