looking to get my cambelt done on my ed30 sometime soon, looking to find it done at a good price, so want to ask others on here of prices they paid,
lookers have quoted me £469 for the belt and water pump change.... im new to vw so im not sure of wether thats a good or bad price??
im hoping this is in the right section ... sorry in advance if ive posted in the wrong section ..

Get it done here http://www.sedox-performance.co.uk/contact/

I paid about £230 from pulmans vw with their fixed price servicing, although they did try to charge me extra when I went to collect it as its a special engine they said! But this was a few months ago.

Quicksale sports and performance in ferryhill. Only trustworthy place around these parts. :happy2:
-
thankyou for all your help!! much appreciated
-
There's PDT on here aswell :happy2:
-
We charge £360 including:
Water pump
Belt kit with new tensioner/idler
Coolant change
Labour and VAT.
Hope this helps.

And if you do get it done elsewhere, make sure they actually lock the cams so they don't time them out if sync, main dealers are the worst for this, plenty of threads on here regarding this issue.
-
And when if you get the cams put back incorrectly, PDT can put them back right for you, like they had to for mine :drinking:
-
PDT is looking very good at the minute... :happy2: didnt realise they sometimes get the cams out of sync.. ! the car has only done 8,300 miles, its on an 08 plate, would you say that the water pump will need changing at that milage?
cheers

It's always worth changing the water pump. I had one fail on my last car that was 2yr old

Always used Volksparts (including a cambelt & WP) until they did the turbo on my PD140 a few years ago - went in first thing but they started it at 1530 when I rang to check up, rushed the job and left loads of paper towels between the engine and the plastic tray.
Otherwise they have been good but that put me off, seeing as it's a bit of a trek for me to get there as it is.

Ron Turnbull in Middlesbrough is brilliant, always had superb service from him on all my VW's. Can't remember the exact price but it was a hell of a lot cheaper than the dealers. Can't recommend him highly enough.

It took them 3 attempts to get my brothers cams aligned after they did his cambelt on his mk4 golf. We both used to use them for all the work on our cars until then. it was drawn out over a few months aswell, must admit they got it right in the end.
My mate got his mk4 done at Pulmans Seat in sunderland, they did his wrong twice, in the end he went to pulmans VW, who got it right, and he had to pay out the again in the end to get it done right.

it sounds like its a tricky job, and you`ve got to find a good mechanic to do this job... :sad1:

Its just the case they need to use the cam locking tool, which either they dont bother using, or havent got. Guess its laziness more than anything

makes ya think twice where and who does the job..lol cheers heavyd :happy2:
