Title: Which wheel colour?
Post by: swgti on January 02, 2013, 04:28:49 pm
Right, finally going to get round to getting my Monza II's powder coated, probably at the begining of feb, now I thought I'd settled on anthrasite but having just seen another laser blue wearing gloss black CH's I'm now in a little doubt....can one of you chaps that's good with photoshop mock me up a pic from the one below showing both anthrasite/grey and with black???

I've seen both options on the wheel thread and lately another thread on a steel grey car but not specifically on a laser blue.

General opinions also welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

Am less than useless with Photoshop but my vote is for Anthracite all over or Gloss Black with a Silver lip, helps give the wheel some definition against the tyre if done in Black.

Have a look in the lazer blue thread in the colours section of members rides, there's a few on there iirc :happy2:

I've looked on there and can't seen to see any other than std or all silver, silver imo makes the wheel look smaller. *shuffles off for another shifty*

Cheers Chris that's just cemented my original thoughts so anthrasite it is.

Think we should leave the gold to the Subaru boys............maybe in another wheel but deffo not Monzas

What about smoked chrome? I think it would look great with the dark grey plastic trim.

Smoked chrome looks the nuts but I'm on a budget, I've found a powder coating place locally that have come recommended and will do all 4 wheels (tyres off) for £200 but think that might be for std finishes only but I'm going there tomorrow to see what they can do.

Your wheels look in really good nick from the photo. Are you doing this just for cosmetic reasons? I love the standard look of the Monza 2's.

That pic was taken about 18mths ago, they were ok then with only slight nicks here and there but over the last 12mths the white worm has taken hold big time and the laquer is shot to pieces now on all four wheels. I love the OEM look but cant stretch to that at the moment.

That's where I was with the old GTi. I didn't know whether to go for it at 110 a corner or go smoked chrome, which was considerably less and more durable than diamond-cut. Furthermore, diamond cut can only be refurbed once as the Monzas are hollow and the process removes too much metal apparently.

When I broke up with my ex, she took the car so I didn't have to worry about it anymore!

Here's my '55 plate GTI

I wasn't a great fan of dark wheels until I got this car !
They're sprayed VW Mountain Grey LH7Z if you're interested.
I also agree that black doesn't look as good, you don't seem to get any definition to be able to see the wheel detail.
