I'm sure most of us don't use Morrison's fuel in our cars, but might be worth passing this information to friends/relatives who may do...
As some of you may know, my old man works in a large Esso oil refinery. He advised me yesterday not to buy fuel from Morrison's anymore because of changes they have made. While all fuels now contain 5% bio ethanol as an environmental measure, Morrison's are using fuel with 15% bio ethanol which does not comply with British Standards (if you look on their pumps now, the BS mark has been removed and I have seen this for myself to confirm it). Bio ethanol in some tests that Esso ran, can lead to degradation of rubber seals & gaskets where it comes into contact with them over a long period of time. In the test room, this is believed to have lead to premature failures in the fuel systems. New seals have been developed for new cars which resist this for longer, but older cars such as the Mk4 could still be prone to being affected by this.
It's not a chance I want to take and think it's worrying that Morrison's bosses have decided to take this gamble on the motorist's behalf without giving any warning information about it.
I just thought it was right to pass this on to make people aware...

I'm strictly a VPower bunny but that makes for interesting reading
-
Interesting even though I don't use their petrol... :happy2:
-
My rents sometimes use Morrisons for groceries. They'll use the petrol as well to save time. I'll let them know.
-
i never knew this, i normally go to morrisons to refuel to cos its the closest to my home, no more though!! :scared:

They started doing this along time ago http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4808244.stm

This was when they badged it as E85 the are now selling a 30% one called B30 which can be a real engine killer

I imagine its cheaper for them to do it this way?
I work for Morrisons and since Ken stepped down the company has changed, its tried to change its image with the new logo and uniforms but still thinks its run backwards
-
Slightly off the morrisons thread I notice Jet garages do Super Unleaded now I have been using it and haven't noticed any side affects.

Off at a slight tangent ... but does anyone know if the cleaning agents in V Power are better than those contained in Tesco 99 ??
I know V Power make a big thing of their fuel keeping everything about as good as it can get and cleaning off any c*ap that is already there .... but Tesco's 99 supplier (Greenergy ? or similar ) say on their website their fuel has agents that do the same stuff ....
.... oh, and I won't be using Morrisons either !

....I was talking to Revo very recently to confirm that their recommended fuel was V-Power rather than Tesco 99 as claimed by another member of this forum. Tesco 99 isn't even 2nd on their list and this follows extensive tests.

Interesting ... my car managed 4bhp more on Tesco 99 as opposed to V Power on SC RR .... that said, my local Shell is a bit sleepy and I wonder if the fuel wasn't that new. Certainly the man at SC thought I was using 95 ron !!
I recently used a Shell garage for a week on holiday in Devon which is right next to a Subaru dealer. Their V Power seemed much better
-
My tank has never seen a drop of anything other than V-Power. Am quite attached to using my V-power card once a week. :jumping:

^^^
Yup, nice to see the vouchers too every so oftern
-
Yup
I'm a V-Power addictive bunny !!!!
Neever used Morrisons.. but this is shocking !!! :angry015:
V-Power all the way ! :driver:

Off tangent - used to work at a supermarket petrol station in the summer holidays. Got chatting to the delivery drivers and they told me that the chemicals are added on the trucks not at depot like the big fuel companies. if the black box does not work they dont get added :scared:
Never use supermarket fuel unless their is no option and the fumes are running low
-
All companys put the additive in the trucks whilst on route.
-
nice addition to your sig there mr mcavity
-
would never put that crap in any of my cars ever :angry015: only put in V-power or Tesco 99
-
Vpower or BP Ultimate ftw.
E85 is now mandated all across the US; therefore your Mk5 should be able to handle it without too much problem. The issue is only really with older cars without adaptive fuel injection (and seals which can eventually degrade, but over quite some time).
Ethanol blends are bunk IMO.
