Title: Dont brake to hard in the new ST, your brakes will catch fire!!
Post by: Janner_Sy on January 03, 2013, 11:32:44 pm
Check out the Focus starting a fire at 3:17 after setting its laptime  :scared: :scared:

And the Astra VXR was a second quicker then the Megane RS265 around Angelsey  :surprised:

What sort of clown would put tiny brakes like that on a hot hatch?

VXR looks pretty special, they're finally getting it right...

In my opinion the wheels on the VXR are horrific.

I did that after 8 laps of Oulton park in my old mk4 ibiza running AP 4 pots with DS2500 pads  :signLOL:

But the might of VAG cant compete with it  :wink:

In fairness, nothing has managed to beat the RenaultSport Megane to date so fair play to the VXR for that.  They've taken all the criticism of the last one and fixed them all.

Yawn. It'd kick your car's arse.

A million other users on VXR forums are probably just as snobby about Golfs, that's why we rely on independent reviews such as this. If it had a VAG badge???

If it had a VAG badge???

Then it would be the best VAG ever  :sleepy:

Im quite the opposite of a badge snob.  I drive a Skoda  :grin:

Yup, I've had pretty much one of everything!

A good car is a good car, regardless of badge. Just buying one marque is like eating pizza for the rest of your life, you may have a slightly different topping every now and again, but it's still pizza.

That's a great quote. :laugh:

Only thing is some of us have been to Naples and had pizza whilst others have had theirs mainly frozen, with a Domino's on occasion.

So the pizza index might be:

Audi = Marks & Spencer
VW = Sainsbury's
Seat = Co-Op
Skoda = Tesco
? = Lidl/Aldi
?? = Netto

The same clown that put 312mm on the gti's

Those ST brakes are 320mm though......  :confused:

f*ck me the focus is ugly.

Agree with the above, crap pads.

Also agree with the trying other marquees. Put some spice in yer life. But I suppose on the flip side, some people just know what they like and stick to it. Personally, next car won't be a VAG. Ready to own RWD.

I could fill in the blanks , but I'd get shouted down again by the vauxhall/ford brigade because I'm a badge snob  :indifferent:

I'm not shouting you down, but it was a pretty narrow minded remark. I've had a Golf and an A3 recently and have a B6 A6 avant and an M135i at the moment...I've also had more MKII GTIs than I can remember. I enjoyed all the VAGs greatly, but they weren't the best cars in the world by any stretch.

Not narrow minded , it is how I feel about vauxhall's. This is just my opinion and it shouldn't be taken to heart. I guess we'll just have to disagree.
Any way back on topic....

I never liked any of the older Vauxhalls... but the new breed look great, still a bit chav-tastic, but I bet there are a hoot to drive and 2 piece 4 pots are win.

Personally its nothing to do with the badges and what is on them for me, I drive a SEAT,

You buy your car because you like it, no matter what badge is on it, well that counts for some people anyway lol,

What is in your blood is in your blood

cars are just things to drive and enjoy regardless of the badge just drive em they all have pro and cons but for me i just enjoy driving cars no matter the badge.I drive a Honda all day got the golf in the grg and got a little phase 1 clio 172 to turn into a track toy.If a car suits your lifestyle then who cares what others think of the badge as long as your happy and your enjoying it nothing else matters  :driver:

two piece 4 pots, an LSD plenty of power and a 5 year warranty.

Its got a lot going for it, if a little pricey.

Just found out the St is available as an estate  :party:

Finally a decent alternative to the Octavia vRS estate.  Might see if there is one in a show room near me.

the old car had a 2.5 lump in it. it's all about Weight.

weird isn't it that VW done the same with the "poor" 312's :P

Despite it's loss of a cylinder, it appears it isn't much if any lighter. Although it's had to confirm for sure.

Just been doing some searching.  Tuners have already been setting to work and its pretty highly strung already.  if you want over 300Hp then its a turbo upgrade.  But even then, the manifold is swan necked, really restrictive and also built into the head so cant be changed.

Thats put me off a fair amount.  Plus ive just seen that Skoda have the vat free deal on again  :laugh:

I'd be driving the VXR home. Huge soft spot for the GTC.

Don't forget 0% APR on them too and it's a lifetime warranty, not 5 years, limited to 100k miles and first owner though.

Shame the interior looks bloody awful, quite like the exterior though, especially with those massive wheels.

Dash brightens up if you add sat nav and the Recaro Sportster CS are standard. Take note VW.

Had a look at a Focus ST3 Estate in black today.  Looked much better than the hatch i think.  Must say i liked the interior as well.  Very snug.

Extended test drive next week.  The missus likes it as well.

The Astra has improved a lot by the looks of it, the last VXR was indeed Chav-tastic as coined by Richwig  :signLOL:

Not keen on the Focus, prefer the older one.

Lets not forget Mercedes offering as well, I think Mercedes needs this Hatch to work because most of their cars are a bit 'Grandad' imo.

The warranty and finance options do make the VXR a decent proposition.

The performance hot hatch market is getting very crowded. Does anyone think VW might be undone with pricing on the next generation or is the following still too strong?
