Title: 2.0TFsi in a Lotus Elise..................Feasible ?
Post by: bigmig95 on January 04, 2013, 04:17:32 pm
As a bit of homework from our day jobs myself and a colleague are currently looking at the feasibility of installing the 2.0TFsi in a series 1 Lotus Elise.  We've already had a Duratec based vehicle completed but are looking for more grunt.

The intention is to buy a written off car (KO4 based and manual box) and take out, engine, loom, ECU and gearbox.  Mechanically I'm not too fussed on the packaging of the engine within the Lotus as we have access to engine drawings on Pro E and seeing if it will fit doesn't bother me at the moment.  This is my colleagues area of work so that's for him to investigate.

The information I'm after is how to get around major obstacles such as immobilisers to get the engine to run.  I've run VAG units before on test beds but had to connect a dash to the ECU to get the engine to run.  This was a few years back mind. We don't want the VAG dash in the Lotus

Anyone seen this done before or know of random vehicles using this engine setup.

I know this can be done, there's a company offering the setup for £15K !!!!!  What I'd like to know is how difficult it is to get around these issues before we go any further.

I can make an ME9 ECU run without the dash  will still need the VAG key and pickup though. (they did this with the Xbow)

I know a guy who did it, fitted an Edition 30 engine then did stage 2+ spec with it, mental thing!

That would be a weapon of a car. I remember seeing a lotus elise with an R32 engine in it. That one had cams and everything, was running approx 290-300bhp.

Andy @ Autograph cars has done loads now, I've supplied him various TFSi engines and boxes, I think they may have even done a DSG by now, the last one was a fully built engine running around 450hp I think

Steve Guglielmi did this 3 years ago on his Time Attack car. 2.0 TFSI with big turbo 500bhp thru rear wheels! Was bit of a handful and came 2nd in the championship to the Gobstopper driven by Olly Clark.  :happy2:

One of our colleagues has the 1.8T in his and it goes well.  We just want to go better  :happy2:

If you tell me how, will you need to kill me ?  Is this a lot of work and how expensive would this be.....ballpark figure, be nice to put some costs together up front. PM if you can  :happy2:

Steve, how much would the K04 variant and manual box normally go for supplied on there own ?.  I've seen some costs on the net hence trying to pick up a written off car.  Pm me if you wish

This is where the £15K figure comes from plus extras

Ben is a very sound gent, and I wouldn't hesitate to contact him if I were building an Elise with a TFSI in it. Incidentally a friend is currently trying to fit a Vag 5-cyl tfsi in his series 1 Elise. Will be interesting if he manages it!

There are about 4 or 5 companies doing this at the moment and about the same number of individuals having a go to. As said above the 1.8 is the most common Audi conversion but the 20TFSI is gaining popularity, some are ven doing DSG too.  If you pay a company to do it, you wont see any change out of £15000.  :innocent: Obviously a lot cheaper on your own.  :happy2:

If you join the above, you only need to register, there is a tec section with a child board for engine conversions.

What kind of power does it originally put out? I guess you can go overkill and just wreck the whole point of the car. I know Storm Developments used to do Superchargers for them. Good luck with the conversion tho :happy2:

About 170bhp at the moment.  Be nice to start with 240 on a K04 then go from there !!
