Hi all I'm in the process of doing a ko4 conversion on my 05 plate gti dsg
Mods include ko4 turbo s3 injectors apr hpfp forge front mount intercooler forge twin intake Pipe werx de-cat down pipe and miltek non res
What remap would people recommend also what difference would it make remapping the dsg box ?
One last thing any idea on cost
Cheers guys

after driving APRs Golf R a fair amount with their K04 stage 2+ I would say their map was pretty awesome and their cruise control swithcability puts them ahead of the alternative, however, i havent driven it back to back with the likes of a REVO equivalent s its only subjective.
Then theres the likes of RTec to throw in the mix as well.
-
For something like your setup I would go full custom... dont bother with off the shelf maps.
R-tech all the way. :happy2:

I personally will be going APR again with my next car, provided its VAG that is.
I wouldnt say there is anything is your spec that warrants a custom job though. AN off the shelf REVO or APR setup will work exactly as expected. Plus you can switch those maps, whereas a custom map will be fixed.

:popcornsoda: hmm thinking now

Glad your coming round to the R-Tech way Rich
It's mighty impressive what that guy can do :notworthy:
-
Dont drive it until its mapped...
I have APR's k04 map. Im pretty happy with it!
-
Take it you can't drive it at all until its mapped? Not even to the mappers off boost?

Yeah it's fine to drive gently, just don't go booting it

Do REVO and APR account for decat specifically? Or just "high flow" DP

APR definitely do. They call them test pipes iirc

i personally wouldn't, and didn't. Not worth the risk, different injectors and boost settings could spell disaster!
-
Thanks for all the info guys I was thinking of driving it to whoever
Does the mapping after all the comments I think I'll look into getting
It trailered now any one recommend where to take it I'm in reading Berkshire
:happy2:
-
Where are you based?
My friend owns Unicorn Motor Developments. He has just finished doing a custom map for my ED30 and it's immense, he has also done switchable maps which you change using the pedals and the rev counter which is properly cool!
Price is very reasonable compared to Revo/APR.
I'd either go there or Nick @ R Tech...
-
Thanks shorty something for me to look at :happy2:
Oh and I'm in reading Berkshire

That sounds awesome :happy2
If you get time, can you write a review of them in the reviews section? I bet a lot of members would be interested in a switchable map like that, without paying the Revo / APR premium
-
i would go with nick at r-tech, have a look at my build.
he will make you a crazy car, you can select when you want the power to come in ect, not like of the apr, revo gen maps.
-
nice one james i should be getting bits fitted in about a week and a half then gonna get her upto nick to sort the map i cant wait :driver: :signLOL:
-
You're probably aware but note that Nick will need yr car for the best part of a wk to properly tune yr car to yr new ko4!
-
Yeah he did say ill be like a kid for a week won't be able to sleep
-
With a K04 conversion on a GTI engine you would need a stage 3 map from the major tuners, but as has been said on here already, with this type of conversion I believe you'd be better off going with a custom map.
:happy2:
-
As i'm sure John will agree, get a WMi kit fitted too, (like i will), join the dots, you'd have one mean fighting machine!! Nick would work his magic and you probably wouldn't sleep for yet another week as you'd never want to get out of it!!!!! Not that i advocate driving without adequate rest of course!! :driver:
-
i would get wmi also  i pulled 400bhp from my old bwa befor it went bang :driver:
-
Thanks for the advise guys but what is wmi

Water Methanol Injection.
http://www.alcohol-injection.com/en/
-
Cheers hurdy :happy2: i will look into that
-
Cheers hurdy :happy2: i will look into that
If you're on stock internals you'll probably be on the edge of bending a rod with k04+wmi.
-
on this theme, as i plan to get it, what about a ko3 with WMi and stock internals??
-
on this theme, as i plan to get it, what about a ko3 with WMi and stock internals??
internals cant cope with wmi, they will get damaged indefinitely. If you want water meth you will need to do internals. :happy2:
-
Hmmm, first i've heard of that, i thought it's actually good for the engine, if anything...!!?? :sad1:
-
It depends on what mix of meth you are using etc but after seeing a few k03 cars with meth all having some problems with their internals i wouldn't say it was "good" for the engine.
-
was thinking about 70 (water) 30 (meths), and neither Nick @ R Tech or Statlers mentioned anything about needing to upgrade internals!? Are you talking specifically about upgraded injectors and intercooler??
-
i would get wmi also  i pulled 400bhp from my old bwa befor it went bang :driver:
That kind of says all you need to know. :signLOL: 70 water 30 meth is quite a safe amount i would imagine that james was running 100% meth ?
If you are running k04 you should already be running s3 injectors and a intercooler.
-
well yes, and the originator of this thread i would imagine will also be getting the injectors and intercooler when getting the ko4!
Mine is a lowly ko3, just hoping i dont need stronger internals, spent enough bloody money, lol!! :fighting:
-
If you get Nick to map it, ask him to go easy on the torque as that's what generally kills the K03 engines.
I can vouch for how quick James's is. Spins the wheels in 4th IN THE DRY :driver:
You couldn't possibly want any more in a FWD and it's a damn sight cheaper than Hybrid Turbo's etc
-
well just had a Helix Stage 1 clutch installed, so at least that wont go, lol!! I'm planning to have the WMi as a stand-alone, then perhaps later in year get it tuned in by Nick...
I'm currently running on about 330 torques... :driver:
-
i was runing 50/50 on my old bwa engine, and it went bang at 400bhp, but only blew a piston ring.
I think the bwa is safe upto 380bhp and 370ftlb
i runned my cdl on 100% meth and it was 400bhp and 450ftlb. is a crazy car... now stuck with a rev4 in NZ :sad1:
-
Right so cars in with j-tech automotive getting all bits fitted thinking about
Remap now wanna send it to nick up at r tech but just wanna drive it
What to do let them put a map on it or take to nick ??

If you want it doing properly, get it up to Nick :happy2:
You must take it gently though if your running a K03 map still
-
Yeah cheers mate they were on about putting a s3 base map on so I could drive it upto nick safely but need to find out cost of this first
-
you cant use the s3 base map as the ecu is not the same.
I drove mine 300miles to nick, if you drive nice and dont go over 70mph it is fine.
-
Oh really thanks for the info James :happy2:
-
Hi pal have u had it mapped yet?
What's it like
-
It's in getting the map done at storm developments should get it back on Saturday mate
Then trying to make my mind up if I should keep or sell :scared:
-
Ok only reason I was asking I'm a newbie to
Vw I got a 08 plate gti dsg was thinking off
Doing the k04 conversion I can get a s3 turbo
Injectors fuel pump and intercoooler but
Was wondering how much it would cost to fit and
Then get a mapp done
-
The map inc dsg is about 580 to fit it your prob looking about 1000-1200 roughly
-
Ok what kind off power would I be expecting to run safely
Thanks
-
They say ill see about 330-335ish but every car is different mate
-
You won't be disappointed with Nick's service mate, he's a genuine enthusiast and really really knows his game. :happy2:
-
Nick isn't doing my map mate
I'm getting mine done local to me Tim at storm developments who is a friend
of nicks at r-tech if I'm not happy with it I will have to bite the bullet and get down to nick

Can the std gti (k03) internals cope with with stage 1/2 (k04) power?

I run stage 3 on mine at 370bhp ... Its been ok so far other than blowing a turbo.

See James comment in page one of this thread for what it took to blow his up

Yup. Just goes to show how much these engines can take :happy2:

Nice!! Bet it's a stunnign drive now! Did you go for WMi in the end or literally just the KO4 + other bits? You get switchable maps too?
-
Just ko4 mate and other bits didn't go for switchable maps either the drive is brilliant they reckon
I could get 370bhp but I said let me get used to the 345 first lol

hahaa nice! get used to the power - jokes! I'm going for my KO4 conversion in the next few months, but think a switchable map will be in order for me as my current 260bhp suprises me nicely everyday! loool.
Have fun! :)
