hi guys, i would just like to pick your brains here for a moment
had something strange happening to my car every now and then for a few weeks, first time i wasnt too sure so i waited to see if it happened more and it has
basically when cruising in 5th gear, i go to put my foot down, and 1 time out of 10, the revs will rise to about 3k (no change in road speed) so i take my foot off the accelerator and put it back on, and it goes back to normal
info about the car: 56 plate 1.9Tdi with a manual 5 speed box
any help would be greatly appreciated :happy2:

clutch slip.........

but why would that only be in 5th? surely it would be in lower gears with higher torque as well?
-
Because at cruising speeds in 5th gear the load is greater than 2nd or 3rd gear at lower speeds.

I had pretty much the same thing around this time last year. Cruising along in 4th or 5th with low revs. When I accellerated it was as expected up to 3k then shot up to 4k rpm with no increase in speed. It then dropped back to about 3.2k and accelerated as normal. I initially thought a performance clutch was the way forward but couldn't justify the cost art the time (just after Christmas + road tax) so switched the map back to stock and tried to live with it. I put the car back to performance mode after a couple of weeks and it has been fine ever since! (approx 20k miles). Still going strong.
It may have picked up some contamination from somewhere. It may not be dead.
Worth considering.
