Found the photo of the 19000 milestone , it was 03/02/2012 !
How many has yours done ?
-
Sorry to be a kill joy but why are you taking a photo of your clocks whilst driving at 40mph. To me that is just irresponsible and nothing to be proud of whatever your mileage.

probably because he had the cruise control on. Midline dash sucks though.
-
1,000 miles in 11 months, do you have another car to use or just not drive anywhere.
I use to have pictures of mileage milestones on my old anni, there were a lot, 16k up to 70k :signLOL:
-
Was expecting to see 100,000 miles on the dash when I opened this thread :sad1:
-
20000 miles??? WTF.......

Yes i spent many minutes setting up this photo and larking about with my SLR to get such a great pic !
Oddly the car can carry more than one person in the front and my wife took it :innocent:
Who mentioned proud ?

-
I have done 350 mls in my New R since 1st Oct !

I have now done 105,000 miles after today's 462-mile trip.
I remember feeling proud when I had done 20,000 miles.

Havn't seen the pictures yet??? :happy2:

what is the point in having a car to do 1000 miles per year? What do you do, just sit and look at it ? Get out there and drive it or sell it to someone who will actually use it.
-
Hi I dont have that photo bucket thing ,
When I took it out Saturday the brakes were stuck on or rusted to the disks
TBH I am not that impressed and Steve is correct the ED30 still makes me smile .
I have a company vehicle so use that 99% off the time and my Wife has a BMW 3 series coupe Diesel,
-
see, not using it does it no good.

:congrats:
In my first 4 months of ownership my ED30 spent most of its time in the garage, i only did 1,500 miles, as i worked in a bad area, so ran a banger that i could dump anywhere, or else the ED30 would have been stolen or on been on bricks!
Each to there own.
-
Thats crazy that youve only done 350miles in 3months, i live 1 mile from work, had my gti a week and done 250 miles cant stop driving it :driver:
-
Nav info in the highline, change setting on the car and looks better
It should have been standard for the sake of a £50 option. Just add that on the overall price...not like anyone would have noticed.
Oh and i've smashed over a 1000 miles in 3 weeks in the rental car. 30,000+ a year.
-
It'd all be the same if your super low mileage example got written off or nicked (heaven forbid) - it's only a car so I reckon it should be driven.
-
My car still feels like a brand new car but it's 5 years old in a few days and is approaching 81k :scared:
-
I love putting miles on mine. I can't wait to get to 100k and beyond. It's such a lovely car to drive that I use it as much as I can.
Although the OP will obviously be better off than me when/if selling it!
-

....It's every individual's right and choice to buy and to drive whatever car they like and to drive as much or as little mileage as they like or that their lifestyle dictates. I agree that nice cars such as the GTI are amongst those which can be enjoyed by being driven but that's just down to personal desires - Each To Their Own!!
Anyway, to some folks any Golf is just a runaround, it's not a Bugatti Veyron or a supercar at the peak of automotive engineering.
-
Mine has about 19,300 on it , I've done 1200 miles in 3 months. Oh and Midline dash as well! :happy2:
-
mine has 88k km now! enjoyed every single km!
Wear well!
Paul
-
Mine has 78k on it. Bought it with 74k in October, and love driving it when I can as be wife uses it for work. One of our previous cars, a mk4 gt tdi 130, had over 184k on her before we sold it.
As in the previous posts, it doesn't matter how much miles u do as long as u enjoy them and more importantly the car :happy2:
-
Still on 65k.. Since buying the shopping trolley, she gets a well earned rest having 4 years of serious use prior. She'll be 6 in a month :sad1:
-
I drive a mk2 gti aswell and thats on 220,000 miles runs sweeter than my peugeot ever did (which i scrapped at 109k) VW's just carry on!
-

Hi Steve
Going o get the winer out the way first , then put her in the Garage while we are away on hols In May or June then Its 5 yr service and valet to get her mint for our short summer
Did you get the Ed30 sprayed in the end scoob's? :happy2:

When I took it out Saturday the brakes were stuck on or rusted to the disks
....That happens when you put your car away in the garage after a wet drive The pads sticking to the disc can be very strong. To prevent that I always, wet or dry, leave the handbrake off in the garage - P-mode in DSG.
-
I always avoid very low milage cars, as they are often used for short journeys where the engine is not allowed to warm up properly.

Same here, id rather buy a car with a few more miles on it knowing its not been stood about and used for short trips.
-
121,000 miles here and still feels tight as a drum.

Well i never do short journeys in mine , i have the diesel cooper for that , hence the low mileage . Being stood about does nothing to deteriorate a car apart from discs , which are cheap on GTI's anyway to replace if required. Why does a lower mileage get a higher price in all the guide books then ? Also nobody would ever buy a high mileage Lamborghini , Aston , Ferrari etc for top money . A local garage (who sells new prestige make ) once took an Aston in p/ex on one of their new cars , it had 52000 on it and the salesman gave a good p/ex price . They couldn't even trade it with that mileage . Nobody wanted it . It went to auction and was unsold , went through again at £5k under trade price as reserve and sold to a private buyer , which was still less than this price !
Also i know several people , well three who want my car when i sell it . One has even offered £2k deposit to keep it for them :rolleye:
-
As said everyone has their own opinions on low/high milage.
For me a car that has had regular drives and serviced and looked after correctly is more important.... regardless of milage. If it happens to be slightly lower than normal then great. However if the milage is too low then I would tend to stay away.
There are some high mileage bargains to be had out there.... but the gti being more of an enthusiasts car you will know they have been looked after. Doesnt mean there isnt some trash out there though.
The positives with a car that is used everyday is that you know it works everyday :happy2:
-
 Mine is at 119.883 should be at 120.000 next week :jumping: and still going
-
.
The whole resale value due to mileage thing is a result of salesmen telling Mr & Mrs Average prospective buyer that low mileage is better and persuading them that the car will last longer, which isn't necessarily true. It's rather like the false idea that a house with more bedrooms is worth more, irrespective of the tiny size of those useless bedrooms.
The salesmen are dictating the values :fighting: Car salesmen and estate agents are very unpopular for good reasons. IMO!
-
All cars with over 100k miles should be scrapped with immediate effect.
The owners should be given a public caning too.

Thats a crap analogy Robin. :rolleye: The price is mainly dictated by demand. A couple of older cars, like yours are going to be great buys, because you keep it in top notch. Most are not i am a afraid. there is a greater chance, statistically of getting a better car, the newer it is.
Think of it like us Humans. You might get a 70 year old Woman, very healthy eats all the correct food walks the dog every day, looks good for her age. compared to a younger lady, still nice and shapely good to look at but had a rough life. Even if there relative asserts made them both worth checking out, there is still a chance the Old lady could drop dead at any moment.
-
I agree RR valuations are only given as a guide anyway, they don't mean much, a car, house or anything for that matter is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay.
My dads a mechanic n has always told me that mileage on a car means nothing if its been well looked after. I know lots of high mileage cars that have been looked after because they have had to as part of a contract. I know I wouldn't turn down a car with high mileage on if I was happy with the servicing etc

....You're not wrong, TC. I was just playing Devil's Advocate and having a gentle rant against the bias over mileage.

Cars are at their best at 100k miles. Cars these days are designed to do 250k miles
-
Better get mine sold then and buy one with 100k on it :rolleye:
-
I've had quite a few cars over 100k now; Rover 200 owned from 70k - 130k (Sold still running), MK1 Focus, 25k to 120k (Sold still running), SAAB 9-5 Aero 47k to 160k (Sold still running), and I've never (touch wood) had any serious engine problems.
The key is most definitely regular oil changes, that was a big thing on the SAAB's, as quite a few T7 engines died due to blocked oil pickups which starved the Turbos... all down to not changing the oil regularly enough. Mine had 160k when I sold it and still pulling hard on the original Turbo.
-
Many people still have a hang up on higher mileage cars and should buy on condition instead.
I once owned a Vectra B with nearly 230k on the clock.
-
Certainly more how it's been looked after rather than just looking at the clock. I'm coming up on 98500miles on my Gti with regular servicing and oil changes every 3-4k and you'd never know the milage because it's taken care of. I do work on a woman's mk5 Gti I know with half the miles of mine but nowhere near the condition as its purely just not looked after. Have to look at the bigger picture sometimes.
Had a mk2 Gti with 215k miles and just kept going and going. Good old German build quality!!
-
I have done 350 mls in my New R since 1st Oct !
Take into account depreciation how much per mile do you think its cost you so far?
-

I imagine it would have been cheaper to hire a veyron to cover those miles :ashamed:
-
Why people are so concerned about the next owner is beyond me.
It's probably not so much the next owner but more about getting a good price when they sell the car on but I do see the point people are making on here about why have a car like a Gti and not actually use it and enjoy it.
The first year I had mine I did 14k in it, since we went back to 2 cars it's dropped to 5k a year which is a good happy medium, gets used but not lumping stacks of miles on it each year.
Obviously some people have a lot of money and can afford to have a toy locked away that only comes out on sunny days.
-
My MK5 GTI had done around five times that mileage when I flogged it Garrard. Just under half of that was done by me (40k+ miles) and it still drove solidly with a fresh feel the day I sold it
Have you started driving yours yet?
-
Before the GTI I had a MK6 RS2000 which I had for 12 years. I cherished that car and only put 12,000 miles on it in that time.
When I came to sell it it was only worth a fraction more than 80-90,000 miles cars as there was nothing to compare it to.
The only difference was that I sold it a couple of hours of advertising it with no haggling.
Taught me a lesson and now I just drive my cars and enjoy them.
But as people have said, you pay good money for your car and can do with them what you want.

I don't know if it is the same guy or not
There was a guy in New york state and had done 1 million miles from new in his Volvo, it still had the original engine. Volvo offered him a new Volvo as they wanted his car back.
-
My 57 gti. 39,ooo. I only get to drive it at weekend as I work out of town and wife only goes about 6 mile a day its your car do as you like I would rather buy a low milage car than a high one :popcornsoda:
-
Could well be the volvo im on about , Eddie-nl. , when I used to have mk1&2 golf Gti's they used to all have over 100k on them and drove great :signLOL:

I've had the Golf for just over 4 years now and watched many mileage milestones pass on the way from 4k when I bought it all the way up to the 71k it has now, I honestly think its running better now than it ever has :driver:

I wonder if i do the same.. get mine up to a million miles. Will VW offer me an Edition 65? :signLOL:
Mines running about 62K now. Had it since 13k :scared: :scared:
Like beddies, mines running a sweet as a nut... it could do with a full set of bushes and suspension change to make it feel like new.

I have received lots of useful and more importantly friendly advice from this forum - I'm afraid some guy posting a pic of his rather boring mileage doesn't fall into either category.

Wasn't meant to help or advise anyone :innocent:
Seems to have read the topic though haven't you so can't be that boring.
Anyway how many miles have i done in the car then ? You know what the total mileage is :innocent:
-
Well said jerrard :P
-
@OP - It's a bit rich to post your mileage on a public forum and then say 'it's got nothing to do with you'.
If you don't want people making comments on your paltry mileage, don't bother to post it up.
....I'm wading in support of the OP (Gerrard) on this one.
He is only needing to be defensive because some (not all) others in this thread have been harshly and personally criticising him for his low mileage and his lifestyle. He's right - No-one has to justify their mileage whether it's low or high. Neither should they need to justify their lifestyle.
Has it not occurred to you that Gerrard might simply be curious to know if other forumites also run very low mileages and hence why he started the topic?
It's an interesting topic because folks have posted quite a variety of mileages and their thoughts about it.
Peace....................

6 pages of chat on here is nothing to brag about. You drive (or maybe just sit and look at) a family hatchback not a rare classic Ferrari.
And I love my gti by the way

Exactly what i said earlier , if you had bothered to read the thread. Its a Golf . Think there must be some jealous GTI owners out there who would love a low mileage Edition 30
It also might be a rare classic one day :innocent:

....Like the love for two of your own different children, I love my Mk5 GTI just as much as a Ferrari F12 and would love a Ferrari just as much as my Mk5 GTI.
-
I did read your thread - it's hardly loaded with hidden depth that I might have missed.
If you think I'm jealous of your car you should wind your neck in!

This threads great. An argument stemming from a simple photo.
Op has an edition30. With low miles. Whys he getting slated for it. Some people like cars with higher mileage and some like cars with lower mileage, each to their own!
How he enjoys his Car is upto him. How he uses his car is upto him!
C'mon, we all love golfs regardless of mileage :drinking:

Its forum banter
I've been away for an hour ish . Cycled the 10 miles home , done that every working day since i bought the bike . Unfortunately they don't come with mileometers otherwise i could start another topic :signLOL:

I wish I could cycle home, have you seen Birmingham city centre. Risk my life in the car, nevermind on a bike!
Oh is this forum banter as oppose to a heated discussion?!
Last time I take your side on anything :P

Did you see that 14 cyclists have been killed in London in 2012 . I glow in the dark !
-
14?! No way, that's horrendous. Even though you may glow in the dark, it's still dangerous!
Did you watch that program recently about cyclists in London? Can't remember what it was called.
Shocking viewing!
Oh and instead of cycling, why don't you go and put some miles on ur car :popcornsoda:
-
I did see the programme but some of the cyclists were right idiots and did the cyclist no favours.
I am diabetic so need to cycle to exercise and hence use the car rarely .
-
It was peoples reactions that were more shocking - punching a guy in the face?!
Keeps you in good shape aswell. I'm not brave enough though, I'd stick to badminton!
