Hi all
As finances are tight, trying to save for a house!
I am thinking of treating the edition 30 to a remap, most probably revo.
Just a quick question regarding the standard exhaust, I can't afford to have both done, but I'm sure I read somewhere that with a remap to around 300 bhp the exhaust should be upgraded to get rid of heat quicker to protect the turbo?
Is this true?
Or will it be fine just getting mapped to 300? I'd be over the moon with that. Not to fussed with the exhaust if not needed.
Any advice appreciated.
Cheers
Will

A stage 1 remap doesn't require any other hardware. :happy2:
-
Youll get 285-300 from a remap... depending on whos rolling road you use as your benchmark!
-
Cheers fellas. So just remapped stage 1 it will be fine?
Don't need exhaust to disperse heat more efficiently to protect turbo?
-
No it will be fine on stage 1
-
That good then. Just thought I read somewhere of heat building back up towards turbo.

Remove the pre-cat from the down pipe. This will reduce exhaust gas temperature and release about 5bhp. You can do this yourself or get a local garage to do it.
Your car will NOT FAIL AN MOT as a result of doing this mod (everyone asks this)

X2
I have done this mod. Passed an mot no problem (so have many others)
Great mod and I had it all done for £20 :happy2:
Remap and enjoy

I've run around with Stage 1 for about 3-4 years now without any issues and still have a stock exhaust.
-
Thanks for all the help fellas!!
So this pre cat removal sounds of great benefit, just really is as easy as smashing it all out an reconnecting?
Does this change the sound on edition 30? Take it the exhausts are the same as GTi.
Sounds a win win win!
-
If your car is a manual then add the cost of an unrated clutch into your future plans (sooner rather than later) as those extra torques may require it. If its a DSG then Happy Days and your ok.
Removing the pre cat is a great place to start and a cheap mod
-
Yes it is a manual.
Will it defenately need an uprated clutch kit? Flywheel as well?
Where's best to get uprated clutch?
Cheers
-
I still have a stock clutch. Despite what these guys say, you may or may not need a new clutch. A large part will depend on your driving habits. If you're regularly booting it in 6th gear, then you'll probably knacker it more than if you dropped down a gear before hitting the gas pedal.

As easy as it says in that link. Exhausts are exactly the same, makes then engine note slightly deeper at idle and a very very slight change on full throttle.
Well worth doing

APR Stage1+ here..
I ran stage1 for around 6 months with no issues at all, Then fitted HPFP and got APR to flash there 1+ map and now got slipping clutch
Good news is i already have a Stage2 clutch + SMF sat in my garage ready for Alex at AKS to fit along with other Stage2+ bits so im not worried

As mentioned, its not a certainty but be aware it may need changing. If you plan on it and its not needed (yet) then all's good. Have a look into Sachs or Helix IMO.
Better brakes should also be on your list, I find my standard ones shocking on my Stage 1 Eddy, can't wait to fit a better setup.
-
Yes fingers crossed mine holds up for a while then. Just need to decide revo, r tech or shark for the map!!
Also looking into the r32 brake upgrade for the eddy as they quite bad standard I feel.
