I got in from work tonight and within a 10 mins I get a call from the VW main dealer garage asking about my GTi. Questions like, current milage, confirm the colour etc... and the guy at the other end said he has a 'customer' that wants a GTi, but cannot find one. He went on to say that if the price was right, would I sell my GTi?. I said, no, I like mine too much and I can't really afford to sell just yet. Sorry and hung up.
The question I asked myself after I hung up the phone was, how much money does this 'customer' have - silly money?
That is the first time that has ever happened to me. I had a look on VW's used site and there is not that many about like wise on PH classifieds.
Just thought I would mention this.

You couldn't give them away before Christmas!

I'd have at least asked how much he was willing to spend? Your car might be worth £10k and he offers £12k, what then?
-
its a salesman..... calling you asking if you want to sell your car. I wonder what the catch could be??? hmmm :scared:
-
People who had them up for sale before/over Xmas couldnt sell them and decided to keep them instead

Exactly!
Old tactics this one, Honda used to try it all the time - promising a good price for your car & all that. . .
When you look on the VW used car site there are loads of them

Earlier today I looked on AutoTrader and PistonHeads and thought how few were for sale.
-
Doesn't mean they are in demand.
Plenty available in the trade!

Since the turn of the new year I've had 3 people want to come and see mine.

Looking good Moz. Hopefully find a new home soon.

i agree, very few for sale in the West Yorkshire area between £7k - £10k think 6 popped up.....so still pretty rare. Its because people keep them because the are such good cars....No one wants a gas guzzling ST/RS or the Ugly golf MK7 :signLOL:

Interesting you mention this. I was at Car Giant in White City, London a couple of weeks ago and they didn't have a single GTI there never mind any mk5's. I know that's not the most likely place to find a GTI but when I was looking for mine a couple of years ago they always had some.

I often have people approach me when i'm out asking if i'd be interested in selling my GTi as they've been looking everywhere for one and like the look of mine... They always get a no, but still surprises me that it happens quite often... puts a grin on my face though when i get in to it and drive off :)

Garage just wants to sell you a newer GTI

I've found that a healthy dose of cynicism has often come in handy......but
I was looking at the asking prices for GTIs on Autotrader. Now, I know asking prices are often optimistic but even knocking 10% off for haggle room, I reckon I've lost comfortably less than £1500 in almost two years since I bought mine. I'm happy with that.

I had the exact same thing happen with my focus RS the dealership I bought it from offered to purchase it back off my and I ended up taking them up on the offer, again they were in high demand
