After 40K on the original DV (36K of which has been remapped) I though it was time to try a new DV.
So I picked-up a new version 'D' piston type from the stealers.
I was surprised when I removed my old DV how well it had fared with no rips or tears, just a bit of bagginess on one side: -

Here's the some pics of the new DV up against the old version 'G' one: -

Once installed looks no different on the outside: -

I know it's probably the placebo effect but the car feels better on the new DV and seams to be pulling ever better than before.
Need to get out and do some logging to see if it's holding the boost better than before :happy2:

Great one Steve, what's the part number for the revision D DV?
-
It is 06 H 145 710 D cost about £40 :happy2:

Top man! Thanks Steve.

When was this revision put on the ed30. Mine is a 2008, do i have the d version already?
-
d version Was never meant for the tfsi. It's used on the new tsi engine in the Rocco and new gti which has a different turbo. The g revision is still listed as the correct part for our engines

You will have revision 'G' Luca (mine is also a 2008 model).
-
Might get myself one then, dont want to spend 140 for a forge one

Indeed. But there are no piston type DVs that are solinoid actuated available for our engine - except the 'D' out of the TSI. The 'G' is still unfortunately, even its improved form, a diaphragm based unit with all the flaws that brings.
I for one am very happy with the workings of the 'D' on my TFSI.

Steve - did you fit it yourself? How hard is it? Any pics or tips appreciated! :drinking:
-
nice one Steve :happy2:
Definitely would be interested to see how the logs look for boost 'profile' , assuming your old one was ok.
VW dont validate this DV for the TFSI (as winrya states) , so Im interested to know if we are missing something or VW do it for a reason???? (maybe until old stocks are exhausted?)

Juust fitted my revision D DV and went for a spin in the car.
It seems a lot more "whooshy" and doesn't seem to pull as strong as before?
It's still quick as i can see the traction light coming on - it just doesn't feel like it pulls as nicely
There is no progressive boost - just seems to be all or nothing boost?
Any thoughts guys???
I know it's fitted correctly as it's only 3 bolts and a connector I can't have got that wrong!!

Was your original DV bad? If it wasn't then you may have a boost leak...
-
No the original DV was fine - looked in good condition when I took it out (no rips or tears) - the only reason I changed it was because I heard they can be a weak point after increasing boost (I have a Revo stage 1 map) and that this Rev. D was much better.
This new DV sounds like a dump valve - every time I let of the gas it goes 'whooosh'!
The boost also seems very 'flat' - the car stops pulling from about 5k revs
-
If you have a standard gti, I suggest you revisit your installation to make sure it's correctly installed.
I recall another member having problems after having a dv fitted at a well known establisnment. He eventually removed and reinstalled the dv and found that it was incorrectly fitted.
-
It's an Ed30 so the DV is right at the front and was easy to change - pretty sure I didn't get that wrong!
Surely I couldn't have introduced a boost leak by fitting this? :surprised:
