Title: 12,995 too much for a gti 30 edition manual?
Post by: pttommy81 on January 07, 2013, 09:58:27 pm
Hi guys, new to this, and i'm after some advice, figure this is the best place!

Basically viewed a 58 plate gti 30 edition etc, 29000 on the clock and immaculate. I literally walked around it for 3 quarters of an hour and couldn't find a mark on it.
That aside, 12995 still seems too much, all ive got to go by is auto trader / piston heads etc and its probably one of if not the most expensive ive seen. Guess im looking for justification, or do i keep looking.......?  Appreciate any thoughts

Nice low miles but yes, it's a high price.

Really does depends on the spec? Is it a 3dr/5dr? Is it a DSG? Is it white (they seem to demand more money) Does it have xenons, RNS510, MFSW, Highline, winter pack, lux pack, parking sensors, sunroof or any aftermarket mods fitted.

Any really good detail specialised would have a car looking the business for a few hundred quid so don't be swayed by "it's shiny". It will need a new Cambelt/Waterpump at 4 years or 60k miles (whichever comes first) and in this case that will Be very soon so make sure that is done as part of the sale if you go for it as its a £450+ job at a VW main dealer, cheaper from a VAG Specialised.

If its a 3dr manual in Black with a poverty spec which needs a Cambelt, £11k max IMHO.

If its fully loaded and there isnt a mark on it, then id say its about that IMO.

If it is in the condition you say and it is fully loaded then I would say its worth the money. The mileage is very decent as well. If I was in the market for an Edition 30 I would pay that, but every one is different. You could pay £500 less and end up with something your not happy with.

I've seen them advertised for more than that at the minute, as above though if it's got loads of toys and is as good a condition as it sounds then that'll be about right, also what type of dealer is it in? Dodgy backstreet, VW main dealer or other main dealer franchise, bmw audi etc, or reputable specialist? I'd quite happily pay an extra 1k for peace of mind than buy off an Arfur Daley.

Its its this one: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201301024766874/sort/default/usedcars/price-to/14000/price-from/12000/model/golf/make/volkswagen/onesearchad/used/onesearchad/nearlynew/onesearchad/new/keywords/edition_30/postcode/rg213eu/page/1/radius/1500?logcode=p id say its quite overpriced, if only as its properly poverty spec.

No nav, cruise, cd changer, armrest, MF steering wheel or highline display

I wondering if it's an import as it's not got the Euro sliding cover cup holder...

Didn't that only come when you specced an armrest?

I know the person who traded in this car, he got around 9k for it and now its up for a quite a bit more. Worth bearing in mind when buying from a trader.

You could well be right but I thought the armrest was standard in a ED30 unlike the GTI.

I've seen plenty without an central armrest. I'd assume they weren't all imports.

Armrest was definitely an option on the Edition 30.  Think it was standard on the Pirelli though.

Christ, quality answers. Wasn't expecting that.
So it's getting a cam belt, service, mot, tax for a yr plus I've asked for the pucker mats and he's obliged .
Was having trouble getting hold of the logbook but its on its way to the dealer as we speak. I have however spoken to a garage which serviced the car and he said it was an import! But  did an AA search and they didn't pick that up. Bit odd. Can't believe someone actually knew the guy who had it! Handy. Can he shed any light in its history?
Hadn't even thought about the spec to tell the truth, rookie, presumed it had sat nav and wouldn't have noticed the arm rest. I feel another conversation with the dealer coming on.  As it stands he's stuck on 12,800, those extras its missing must be worth bargaining on.
It's a chuffing lot if money so I appreciate all this stuff, cheers

Do you have a link for the website or the name of the garage/trader so we can see the car?

If its an import it may well not come with climate control. I certainly wouldn't be paying that kind of money for an import! :scared:

Would you feel differently if it was a UK-spec import?

I would consider one yes, but the price would need to be sweeter!

Mine is an import.from  Ireland I don't have climate I don't even  notice. I had it on last Audi make no difference to me  only prob was no alarm ff. As optional extra for Irish cars. Other than that it still a good car candy white 18 inch monza armrest thats about it .poverty spec people would.say but don't need highline satnav  cruise control  its still my pride and joy gti

Nope the armrest was an option that I had to pay for on my Eddy. Then a few weeks later they announce the Pirelli and the centre arm rest is now standard!  :fighting:

EDIT: Just read Golfgirl's reply!

The logbooks gonna be with the dealer probably by Thursday, he's assured me already its NOT an import. It doesn't make a hell of a lot of difference to me whether it is or not, but, I can definitely push to get the price down if it does turn out to be imported when hes told me its not. Top of the list for me would be the xenon lights,  so price wise what am i looking at roughly? I can live without sat nav.

Given its on a 58 plate I reckon UK car that has sat in VW stock due to not many toys being specced

Unless I've missed something, that's absolute poverty spec.

No highline computer
No MFSW
No cruise control
No Xenons
No winter pack
No armrest

Get the price down if you can.

If that is the case then its not worth 13K

For 13K i would want...

low miles
DSG
Parking sensors
highline computer
MFSW
cruise control
Xenons
winter pack
armrest
RNS510
a++ condition.

I can do all the above apart from low miles and parking sensors, so seeing as its you we'll call it £12,999..?

That is silly money for that car! Im surprised he has it up for that much and expects it to sell.

Take it from some who is selling his ed30... its not an easy time to sell a car so I would be much more fussy in your search. Once you realise there are extras you are missing it costs a fair amount to get the extra bits fitted without any ROI.
